Hi need advice on grouping I practice with a precihole pegasus at 15 yards standing my problem is that the first five or six shots that I shoot go all haywire they hit the 8 inch target but without consistency after that the grouping improves. I am not a good shot but manage 1 inch group's after the initial 5 to 6 shot's would appreciate advice on what I am doing wrong

Nevil,
It is very important to have a consistent way of holding the air rifle and shooting it. The non shooting arm should be placed at the exact same position for every shot. Likewise for the shooting hand, pressure of holding the grip, and the way the trigger is pulled. Also the way you stand (off hand position I am assuming), the position of your feet and the distance between them.
Everything has to be consistent for consistent results.
Ofcourse you should be using good quality pellets. Mastershot Export Quality is a good brand, Economical and Accurate and easily available in your city.
Lastly since you are shooting a springer, holding it using the Artillery hold technique can give you better results. Check out the video below for using artillery hold.

Your Pegasus is capable of shooting very tight groups. Tighter than even half an inch and its easy with consistent technique.
Shoot well and safe.

Springers are temperamental. Sometimes the first 2-3 shots go haywire as the rifle has just been picked up from storage.
Have you tried simply shooting 4-5 shots off before commencing shooting at the target. If that works, then its the rifle. If it doesn't work, its you.

I disagree with your observation. What does happen is the first shot after storage has slightly higher fps. Nothing else changes and springers are definitely not temperamental.
The OP needs to practice more and with a consistent hold. Dont confuse him.

Hi guys thanks for the advice I think the problem is with not holding the rifle in the exact same place is one of the mistakes I am making and just read a thread by Brihacharan on trigger release that is another important part which I will have to work on will practice over the weekend and come back with the result. The poor grouping is surely because of me and not the rifle

Dear Nevil,
May I add to what Brihji and FF2003 have already written: Please note that even your head cant and your cheek position and the consistency with which it presses down on the butt matters. That, both in terms of mastery and muscle memory, takes time... a long time, much longer than a single weekend. So keep up the good work and focus more on simply holding and trigger squeeze. Do *NOT* cock and fire with chamber empty. Hope you have adjusted the second pull of your Pegasus to your comfort. Good Luck and shoot safe.

Thanks airgun novice I have taken up the sport of airgun shooting seriously after more than 30 year's. Never did target shooting at that time only live targets and busting bottle's (no cans at that time) equipment has improved a lot but the sport retains it's charm and grandeur. I don't practice only on weekends but try my best to take 40 to 50 shot's everyday. Am sure that I will improve my skills with all you experienced gentlemen guiding me.
