Indians For Guns

HI Everyone,
Is there anybody using Hammerli AR20 or have any idea about the performance of the rifle because I am thinking to buy one but I coudnt find any proper review about this rifle over the internet. I am serious about my shooting but cant afford walther etc at present more over if I buy this gun now and wont be able to buy a better one in near future so its a big decision for me and I am in a confused state of mind what should I do?? my target is to prepare for state and mavlankar 2014 and get selected. need HELP!!!

I would stay with the band ( general population among target shooter)
cos' if you can't find any review on net, where will you find spares/ service for rare AR)

If you can't afford good Ar( FWB, Walther etc ) right now, I would suggest you should wait and save for batter deal )

A friend of mine having Hammerli Pnuma laying as a show piece because of air leakage since long time

We need to keep in mind its a long term investment

I had tried the Hammeri AR20 some time back.
I found that to cock the AR you need both hands to pull on the cocking lever. Its more of an issue of design than need for strength to cock.
This may be a disadvantage as for the FWB700 only your non shooting hand is enough to accomplish the same.
Thus the advantage is that on the 700 you dont change your grip of your shooting hand. This contributes to minimising unwanted movement and may improving shot consistency.
But I seriously believe the AR20 is enough to take you past Mavlankar and beyond.
So if you cannot afford a used FWB700 or Walther LG300 right now and don't want to wait, The AR20 is good to go.
You can always sell it to a novice later when you are ready for an upgrade.

Thanks pritam, farook, fantumfan2003 for your your suggestion and welcoming me. while I was waiting for the reply from IFGions :
1. I also asked my coach to inquire about this rifle and today only he told me that it is good for beginners and is also suitable for Indian weather.
2. I visited the website of hammerli and found that for these type of competition air rifle, walther is managing the production department(actually it is uramex who now owns both walther and hammerli). The barrel and cylinder is manufactured by walther. To reduce the cost of competition air rifle, walther is selling it under hammerli but there are other reason also due to which the price of this rifle is less (for eg the stock which is not so highly adjustable). So I hope that quality related issues wont be there but cant say
3. last but not the least I asked Joydeep da about the rifle he also said its good for the beginners
Inspite all these I totally agree with fantumfan2003 about the cocking problem but less money = little compromise. My main concern is about the accuracy and quality. Pritam what ever you said (" sasta roye 7 bar, mehanga roye 1 bar ") is absolutely right but "agar wahi accuracy aur quality agar kam daamo me mile to koi mehnga wala kyu le "...lol

Now something about me.....I started practicing (seriously) target shooting in September 2013 as I found a coach he suggested me to go for eastern zone and WB state competition. I bought a precihole pegasus 0n 16th sept and started practising with that, since coach had IHP 35 but I found that pegasus was better suitable for ME. I some how managed a bronze medal in eastern zone and a gold in west bengal state (10 meter open sight AR). I always wanted to be a shooter but you know until you prove yourself no body cares. I dropped my CA exam which were in november because I didnt prepared for them as I was busy with shooting and then I realized that this is what I want to do in my life...lets see how far I can go!!

I would not worry about the accuracy of the AR20. It is a match air rifle designed to shoot 10s all day, day after day.
Agreed it has lots of plastic in its construction but it is engineering plastic and absolutely nothing wrong with it.

I am from kolkata. my coach's name is Mr Sridam Mukherjee

I agree with you about the stock, what I wanted to tell is, since it is not as much adjustable as other rifles its price is lower. One more important thing I came across is that even if those costly rifles provides lots of adjustment but as per issf rule book we are not allowed to tilt the but more than 15 degree from the vertical axis..so I think hammerli ar20 would be the best at this price level

The AR20 has all the adjustments a shooter needs and you are spot on with the ISSF rules.
