Hi
Air rifles are all legal(no license required) in India if its bore size is 0.177,.020 & 0.22, but if its 0.25 then you have to get a arms license. If you want to buy air rifles of Indian brand you can get it from any store. But if want to buy a foren brand air rifle its a different ball game altogether, then you have get it after registering into a state rifle club, & that too you will be accessed to only 0.177 cal air rifle. Hope i could answer all your queries.

@bestairrifles --- first introduce yourself, use search on forum and you may not even need to ask questions.
@ moulindu --- Do not misguide on caliber and arm license. you do not need any arm license if gun passes deal wood test caliber does not matter and if test this test is fails then you need arm license.

I would request members to search this forum before asking questions. Most of the questions are already discussed.
I would also request members to refrain from giving legal advice based on some hearsay or imagination. Bore size has nothing to do with legality of airguns. If the air gun passes the deal wood test, it does not require an arms license. If it fails the deal wood test, it requires an arms license. The best way to buy a legal air rifle in India is to visit a gun shop and ask for one and then pull out the money and pay for it. You could ask the dealer if what he is selling you is legal if you have any doubts. If he sells you illegal stuff you will never know. A good price would be between Rs 4500 and maybe Rs 90,000 depending on what is on sale and how much money you want to sink into your purchase.
Other than wanting an air rifle is there anything else you might want? What do you want to do with that air rifle? Competitive shooting, plinking, showing off that you have a gun, simply displaying or anything else. Hunting is illegal in India and while your air rifle may be legal what you do with it can be illegal.
