Hello Fellow Members,

Could somebody please let me know if the Precihole SX100 'PEGASUS' can be used at a Shooting range (for target practice & competition), specifically at the RAAP in Hyderabad?

If not, why?

I am contemplating between the Pegasus and the Club, since I intend on becoming a member at the RAAP, and would like the air gun I choose to buy, be put to optimum use.

The point is, there's hardly any choice, the only (sub-)standard Indian air-gun manufacturer is IHP, and now we have Precihole Sports, who's yet to prove itself, seems like they are improvising well based upon customer feedback, makes sense not be a guinea pig.

But still you want to volunteer

Not sure if you have as yet made up your mind and executed your decision - but for what it's worth now -> In clubs you get to shoot only .177 cal rifles hence from the SX100 - it would only be Club and Pegasus as the Orion is of .22 cal. Ideally, if the AR is to be used for club prax and OS AR competitions, I would suggest Club as that has a lower FPS and less recoil than the Pegasus. I purchased Pegasus since MH does not have too many OS AR competitions where adults can compete and hence would be primarily for (outdoors) target shooting and plinking. And yet it gives me the option to compete in those rare and odd OS AR tourneys that still do happen. So good luck on your decision and wish you a safe and enjoyable shooting.

Your advice is right, and well understood.

But alas! I decided to go for the .22 Orion just for the reason it was popular here, and I wanted to get over the agony of deciding which one to go, not that this thread helped me in any way, sometimes I get a feeling that the veteren folks here are just not "here".

I shall use my range membership to import a few good .177s, pistols and rifles, to use at the range and for competition too if you may, and since I cannot import any .22s, I'm glad I bought the Orion. Win win!

Lots of folks have discussed ARs and APs in different threads on IFG - that may be why they did not make their appearance "here". Veterans are always watching and they want novices like us to do a bit of hard labor as well rather than simply gulp readymade solutions. Can not really blame them as one thread here leads to another (like I stumbled upon yours) and that leads to greater awareness and knowledge. Anyway, coming to your point -

What are you contemplating to compete in ? AP events or ARs ? If it's AR events then follow writeups by rifle shooters like fantumfan2003 and gverma. In facy gverma has praxtixally written a book here. There'sd also a new book in market by TenX. Try to get a copy of the same. Ahg Angschutz and Walther has some good alu stock products in the market. So does Feinwerkbau - including competition level springers. If you do get interested in APs then Steyr, Pardinni, Morinni and Feinwerkbau rule the roost - though not necessarily in that order. Follow the thread "TOPS" by hvj1 - Tips On Pistol Shooting - and you will get immense information. tirpassion has also posted his take on different APs there.

I too was in doubt since I wanted to do "both" but saner advice by experts in this field and forum prevailed and I settled on AP shooting as primary field of interest though I retain AR shooting just for the sheer joy of it. Both have different "philosophies" of shooting so to speak and hence ideally try to excel in one while retaining other as stress buster - something akin to Profession v/s Hobbby. Good Luck.

Just like you, I think I'm more inclined towards AP shooting, and am also quite keen on getting my 5yr old daughter initiated into the sport as well soon, God Willing.

I have ordered and received the 10X book and have only just begun reading it. It seems very comprehensive and I'm hoping to use it as a route map for my journeys into this new realm.

I shall study the topics suggested by you as well as the guns. Will keep you updated on any developments in my new found fancy.
