ISSF Rule Change:Air Rifle 10M (&others) 2013-16

Post by nupadhya » Sat Sep 15, 2012 9:35 pm

I am taking the liberty to post this again under "Air Guns". A blog that I follow, just posted this. Rules for 10M AR (and others) are proposed to undergo change. Wonder how much impact it has to upgrading existing equipment. I am specially interested in :

1) Vibration Reduction Systems. The installation of any type of vibration reduction system in or on the rifle is prohibited
2) Air Rifle Pistol Grip. The pistol grip may not extend more than 60mm from a plane perpendicular to the centerline of the barrel (also applies to 300m Standard Rifle).
3) Complicated for me to understand: Butt Plate Hook. The top projection of the butt plate must not extend more than 25 mm to the rear of a line that is perpendicular to the axis of the bore of the rifle, and tangent to the deepest part of the butt plate depression that normally rests against the shoulder.
4) Various other on clothing...

here is the link to the article and second one released by ISSF...pls. comment. Thanks!

Then what about the airguns that we use today.... i think most of the walthers, steyr and anschutz have built in vibration reduction systems....
If you want peace, prepare for war...:-[

Many Thanks for the heads up.......It really belongs to the Shooting Sports Section here at IFG.

This one is especially worrying.....

RIFLE RULES
 Vibration Reduction Systems. The installation of any type of vibration reduction system in or on the rifle is prohibited.

Coz it means, modifying your existing air rifle or if not feasible, buy a new one

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.

Re: ISSF : Rule Changes for 2013-2016

Here is an important clarification from ISSF:
“Thank you for your inquiry regarding the new ISSF rule prohibiting “vibration reduction systems.”

The ISSF is still working on the final wording of this rule, but the ISSF intent is to prohibit the use of any device or system that would artificially reduce, slow or control the movements or oscillations of a rifle or pistol before the shot is fired. This rule is intended to preclude the application of anti-vibration technology now used in photography, for example, to rifle or pistol shooting This rule will not affect passive means of controlling gun movements such as barrel weights and it will not affect any existing technology that stabilizes the rifle or pistol after the shot is fired. It should also be noted that ISSF Pistol and Rifle Rules already prohibit the use of compensators, muzzle brakes or other similar devices that could control how the rifle or pistol recoils during the shot.

On this basis, the compensators on air rifles and pistol are not activated until the shot is fired and would remain legal. Barrel tuning and bedding systems have nothing to do with rifle movements before the shot and would not be affected. Passive systems like barrel weights are specifically excluded. Barrel ports on rapid fire pistol have been illegal for several years and this new regulation would not change that.

With best regards,
Gary Anderson
ISSF Vice President”

Thanks for taking the effort to get the clarification from ISSF themselves.....Seems the "final wording" bit will lay all doubts to rest.....some more waiting for me before undertaking hardware refresh..........

I think, as suggested, the rule change will be more intended to prevent Gyro based barell correction tecchnology. So while most of the common tech would be acceptable, no harm waiting. The notification is expected in about a month.

Dear all,
As I am told, the new rules will be applicable from January 2013 in all international level matches. In France, we will adopt the new rules from the next season i.e. 2013/2014.
best regards
