Hobby - Deformed pellets

Post by meow » Wed Aug 15, 2012 7:05 pm

Hello guys, lately i have been interested in collecting deformed pellets and i dont know why :? It has become a hobby for me now-a-days. These deformed pellets remind me of my shot. eg: how the pellet moved and hit the target, at which angle, at what force, or if it did just slide away. I started to admire their shapes :) An unusual thing isn't it? :) I dont know if there is anyone out there admiring the shapes of deformed pellets like me. Or may be i need a psychiatrist.

take your hobby one step further and use it to try and work out the speed..fps ...of your gun. its quite interssting. dont know how accurate it is, but if one does not have a chronograph, at least ..a rough idea. called" Splatology".

use this link for help....http://www.airgunwriter.com/splatology.html

enjoy....shoot safe.

you may need a steel stop to get the desired results...but remember these were taken with low powered guns. if you are checking the newer magnums...protect your eyes with shooting glasses.
Throw me to the wolves....I will return leading the pack.

@ GANESH TT
Thanks man : )

@ nupadhya
No trick shots nupadhya : ) Some of them are just bad shots.
I shot a plastic oil can and some pellets passed through it and hit a pellet stopper. It seems that the pellet punched through the plastic can and then deviated from its path hitting the pellet stopper. That is the reason some pellets show the impact sideways and not head-on.
And... the 3rd pellet from the left got stuck in the plastic can and got ripped through when the 2nd pellet from the right hit the same target. Other pellets that are not completely deformed are the ones that made a single hole and stuck there.
Sorry for boring you with my pellet stories : )

@ mercury
Thanks mercury, untill now i did not know that pellet science (Splatology) existed. That was a great read from Tom Gaylord. I am still in the learning process. It will take some time for me to identify a rough FPS based on his write-up. Because he used lead balls but we are using pellets. So i need to shoot more. Thank you for enlightening me : )

@ rahulbdelhi
Thats really great to know : ) Post some pictures if possible. But zooming is the problem. Should have a good cam to zoom micro level to take it so that the pic is neat.
