These are pistol targets, so hopefully you were shooting a pistol (using the right targets). Dont worry about the score yet, concentrate on a good grouping i.e. smallest distance between the shots and concentrated in the same area. Consistency is first goal and then the scores...practice dry fire by puting up the target (prossibly scaled if distance is <10M) on a wall and some exercises to strengthen the muscles that may feel the strain along with lungs control - will help. Once, you set your self to it and are serious, get your own weapon (AP or AR) and customize to yourself. All the best...

Go through this for types of sights...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_sight#Open_sights
read through after open sights, Aperture or peep sights. Peep sights is what is used in established competitions.
As far as cost is concerned, depends on your interest, objective and pocket. They can start from Rs. 5K and go upto Euro 3K (or +2Lacs). Match pedigree ones would cost upwards of Rs. 90K +.
See a few web sights for cost etc.:
aimco.com
pyramidair.com
euroshooting.eu/en
If serious, best to invest in a competition grade weapon as they are very personal and highly adjusted/tuned to the shooter...but for a start you should rent a good weapon at your range...next time rent a peep sight.
enjoy and get hooked its a lovely sport! All he best.

Shot4gold,
Relax, don't get pressurized into buying anything yet. The next Delhi State is about 4 months away, you have time.
Are you sure you want to shoot rifle? Then please ask them to let you try out a match rifle, using rifle targets.
This will give you a better feel of the game. The kit will include rifle shooting trousers, jacket, sling and shoes.
Please check for the anschutz kits by using google. Don't invest any money till you hit 88 to 90% scores. Or unless you are convinced that this is the sport for you.
Like all Olympic sports it will demand several hours of practice, please check if you have the time.
You can also get Indian shooting kits from capapie(spelling?) limited, if you are so inclined.
Best of luck,
Dev
