I heared breech seal can be made from rubber tubes available on car spare parts shops. Not sure which part exactly. Even i am trying to findout how.
Also it can be made from a thick leather piece. I made once and it was working properly. Later got damaged due to dieseling.

pratik_mahale , vortek products are good. those breach seals are for the diana 34 and not too sure if the ihp has the same dimensions.
check out any good hardware store and you will find 0 rings in various sizes made of different materiels...different types of rubber. plastic etc..... check out the plumbing section there are 0 rings used in taps. very cheap and you can buy a handfull of them.
i picked up an o ring for my bsa from a store that dealt only with o rings at city markt in Bangalore.
check the effectiveness by placing a thin tissue papper accross the breach ( after loading and locking it) and firing some pellets. if there is a leak the tisssue will show it.
not vouching for the quality if your gun is dieseling!! otherwise with the right size those o rings are very effective.
shoot safe.

Hi Pratik,
> In my extensive search for a proper "Breech Seal" I found that:
1. Leather Seals are OK upto a point - because they have to be kept moist (oiled) at all times to keep the breech air-tight.
2. Leather is organic hence will deteriorate over a period of time - thus causing air leaks.
> Good quality 'O' rings are difficult to come by - correct size could be a problem.
> After long experimentation I found that a "Co-extruded' synthetic rubber tube cut to size is ideal as it provides the necessary 'resilience' (cushioning effect) when the breech is closed - thus making it air-tight.
> For best effect 'always put a 'metal shim' in the breech slot and then put in the seal.
> This is because the bottom surface of the breech may not be even - thus the seal would not sit properly to give an even top surface.
> My Samurai 3G 0.22cal got an additional 20fps when I replaced the original leather washer with the Co-Extruded synthetic rubber seal.
> I have a spare seal which you can collect from me anytime - happy to share it
- I can also give a demo on fitting it with a metal shim.
> It will also be an opportunity for you to bring your "Chrono' along - Amol / AK49 / Essdee & Prasanjit will also be there.
Cheers
Briha

Found these O-rings. These fit good in Ihp and similar models(Bit shimming is needed). These are synthetic rubber washers used for LPG Petromax and I bought them from a shop which repairs mixer/motors/pressure cookers. Cost is rs30 for a pack of 25 washers(The automobile guy was asking for rs10 for 1 washer). Only thing needs to be seen is how much these will last.

Original Breach seal of my IHP was worn-out so I made a new breech seal using a rubber tube it was working very well but I have the feeling that it was not sealing the breech area properly so I was in search for the exact size o ring but not able to get it. Luckily yesterday I found one Pegasus breech seal which ID was perfect but OD was less for IHP so I filled the outer area with M-seal
My feeling was correct about the rubber seal because after installing Pegasus breech seal velocity was increased by more than 50 fps

Hi Pratik,

Dear Brihji,
Please forgive my ignorance here, but have a coupla Q on the metal shim. Does one have to cut it into a ring to slide it into the breech seal slot ? Does one need to stick that shimi first into the "base" before sliding on the O-ring atop ? I am sure these two Qs too would have crossed minds of a few shy readers.
Many thanks in advance. regs, A.

Yes you are right replacing seal is a problem but I have fired around 5K pellets from my Pegasus never change the seal
First I put a very thin layer of M-seal at the bottom which act like a shimming as the thickness of the Pegasus seal was less
Then I filled the outer area by M-seal
Fired around 50 shot no problem at all

Shoe leather is perfect in my opinion. It is every bit as good as rubber seals and you don't have to scour the entire city to find appropriate rings. My Orion's breech seal started leaking. I found (and bought) 10 rings after much searching and pain. Rings of that size are hard to get and probably impossible to find in smaller towns in India. But in the meantime I am having a great time with a leather breech seal made out of an old boot. I have no intention of removing it because it is working so well.

Breech seal is one of the most important part in AR when it comes to velocity.
Previously Briha had sent me one rubber seal, cut out of a rubber tube which I used in my N 25 after a little sizing. This seal must have done 3000+ shots and working like new one.
Later in my SDB 45 , I used Welding hose ,cut in size and resized , working excellent and better that leather ones.As a result velocity increase by 25+fps and it remains within low extreme spread.

Metal / Polymer shims have to be inserted since the depression where the breech seal sits is more often than not tapering towards its bottom - hence breech seals w/o shim tend to get depressed unevenly...this may cause air leakage & loss in velocity.
> Thus by inserting a metal / polymer shim.... we create a level surface for the breech seal to sit evenly & snugly.
> BTW - The shim is in-fact a washer corresponding to the breech seal's size but thinner about 0.5mm approx. thick.

> In the event one cannot have an access to "O" rings the use of an LPG / Welding hose cut to size can come handy (Mine & Basu's experience) both of us have used it successfully & have shot over 3000 pellets accurately with our ARs..

Thank you RamMani.
Let us assume it's an annular/ circular shim. So now the Qn is how to punch the precise hole at home ? I mean not a lot easy to get a factory produced shim. May be a metal washer can come in handy ? And then a high grit sand paper ? OK done. But still the other Qn - Do we stick the shim beneath or simply slide it over followed by the O ring ?
