Hi team,

From all your kind support, i have placed the order in Aimco for IHP 35 0.22 + WD 40 Anti rust oil + Air rifle cover + 5 packets of mastershot pellets + 5 packets of Aimco pellets on 12th april 2012. They have sent the goods through GATI on 13th April 2012. I shall be probably getting my gun by 18th or 19th April. Really i am not patient enough to wait for the transit time.. Very much eager to see my gun..

Once after getting my new gun.. What are the initial measures i should do for its best working and long lasting life? Should i put anti rust oil immediately after opening the parcel for preventing the gun from rusting? Also i am in need of your help for maintaining my gun... How and when should i start my shooting? Is their any initial procedure before starting to use my gun? Please guide me team..

Regards,
Ramakrishnan S

@ Ramakrishnan
you start shooting when you received your rifle
The only initial procedure is " learn safety " about your rifle

put 2 drops of gun oil on the barrel tip and kept in vertical position after every 100 shots or weakly once
clean ur gun after usage with a cloth, sweating is the main enemy to the bluing.
Apply anti rust oil at metal parts for prevent rusting, close the muzzle end by a plastic or smooth plug or by cloth for prevent insects.
After some usage, dismantle the gun from furniture, apply some moly grease to the spring.
Keep the rifle in polythene cover comes with rifle to prevent for dust and rust.

All is okay except don't put gun oil in the barrel. It will cause dieseling or worse detonation. Both will spoil the IHP in the long run.

@fantumfan2003
Please Correct me if i am wrong
Two drops of oil will dry before it reaches the breach
i think oil in barrel reduce the lead deposit in rifling and prevent from rust

Team,
Should i put oil as soon as i get my gun? Please help me in this.. Very new to rifle.. Getting varied opinion about the antirust oil.. what should i do? Whether to use oil or not? Also i am very new to the Gun.. Dismantling the gun and applying grease to the spring are possible for an amateur like me? Where will i get the grease for the gun? Or should i take my gun to any gun shop for cleaning and maintaining it? Will there be any procedure sheet along with the gun for doing these? Please help team..

Ramakrishnan

1st fire a shot (with pellet) and see the amount of smoke given out - if it is a lot then it is oiled and maybe in excess too so fire a few pellets till it settles down. It usually is so no oiling required here.
Do not dismantle if you are not sure of what you are doing - fire a couple of 100 or so shots and then check if stock screws are tightened.
after use Wipe all the metal parts with a lightly oiled rag.
Oil in the barrel will not cause dieseling so dont worry about that -

Nope, oil will remain in the barrel and not dry up. It wont reduce lead deposits either. A very minute amount of oil in the action get transferred in the barrel every time an air rifle is fired, that is what prevents rust in the bore.

Hi Sniper,
Thanks Brother.. Should i apply oil outside the barrel or put drops of oil inside the barrel? I really dont know to explain.. Is the name muzzle means the exit part of the pellet? If so, should i drop WD-40 oil into muzzle end? or should i drop oil in the end where we put pellets? Kindly help me bro..

I would suggest you to go to a local gunsmith once and learn from him.
He'll be able to clear doubts better.

Anyways, Congratulations for your new gun!!!!!!
