I was in process of importing a Styer LP10 for my personal use though my Club, but recently club officials notified me and asked to wait for some time as According to them customs officials are not releasing any air rifles or air pistols as of now . Also they are not following Duty Free Import issued by DGFT, and demanding 30% import duty on imported air rifles/pistols based on some recent notification ( Though dont know which notification they are talking about).

As a result lots of rifles are on hold (This includes rifle imported by M.S Dhoni and by some top shooters) , and they specifically asking letters from Ministry of Sports if someone wish to get duty exemption.

I dont know much information about above, as I heard it from one of our club officials, and he asked me to wait.
if Any of you has any information on the above please let us know as this is a real worry for all shooting enthusiastic persons.

Hi Saptarshi,

If you can get the mentioned notification no., then we can probably check from here. Unless, somebody knows more.

Dunno about postal route, but I recently brought a 0.177 air pistol in personal baggage, which went through Delhi customs ,who cleared it without any problems or duties after confirming my NRAI membership. Mind you, it was second hand and priced within custom allowance.

Any updates on this? Is it restricted to postal route only or even the courier route? Recent imports, ie, during April seem to have been smooth.

My interaction with an NRAI official states otherwise, Saptarshi.

No such notification has come out which restricts import of .177 air pistol / air rifle for members of Rifle clubs and associations. As I said earlier, if you can get the said notification, we can check further.

Regards
