Post by airgun_novice » Fri Mar 25, 2011 10:35 pm

Came across this book on flipkart - Air Pistol Target Shooting by Dr. B Singh Sekhon. Does anyone have it or has anyone read/ followed it ? Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Its a new find. The first 10 pages of this ebook including ToC seem promising....

At 395/- it seems reasonable....

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.

Yes, Fantumfan 2003 - the person also looks credible and somewhat of an authority and a "hands-on" person. Google did not throw up information on him, so was wondering if any on IFG knew of him. Can buy the book and check it out. Will keep y'all posted.

Review by AHJ
Purchased this book since I want to take up AP shooting. However the cover shows Abhinav Bindra, Rajyavardhan Rathod, a couple of shotgun shells while the back cover shows some dude (Rana/ Jung ?). All of them shoot rifles!!! Truly it's said that - "Never judge the book by its cover". :-) Contents are decent, though more efforts could have been put in putting pictures for APs, stance, footwork etc. A few tips on mental conditioning would have helped too. Overall, not a bad book for an AP enthusiast.

Also available at INR 79 discounted (Net price INR 316 instead of INR 395) with S&H free. Will read the book cover to cover and give my 2 cents worth of thoughts after done.

My mistake - forgot to post. Yes it's an good addition to the library for AP shooters. It does lack pictures on stance(s), postures and carries almost basic info on grip - the first two essential ingredients to start the AP. You would have a better training info digest by following shooting coach hvj1's thread on Tips on Pistol Shooting in Shooting Sports section. But personal coaching can not be substituted. Only the good observant coach will correct basic flaws to start with. While not too elated about the book (I think it's over-priced - but the then sport itself is at every level :) ), I am quite happy with it for the same reason that chitapure mentions - "May be the Only book regarding Shooting Sport written by Single Indian author & Printed in India." Plus Sekhon's a shooting coach himself.
