The HW45 has long been the Rolls Royace of spring piston pistols. The build quality by all accounts is exceptional. It is fairly accurate; needs practice, as it is with all springers. And it is the most powerful of all spring pistols. Here I am not counting models like RWS LP8, Browning 800 Mag. etc, as from my perspective, they are simply scaled-down rifles, not true pistols. These models are almost 18" in length!

And so, to my eyes, the HW45 reigns supreme ...... or does it?

Enter the Kueng HyperMagnum spring pistol. The story of this pistol is a sad one. Beautifully designed, and engineered to generate upto 8-9 FPE in 0.177 and upto 12 FPE in 0.22 / 0.25, the project met with legal difficulties and was suspended indefinitely. Currently the manufacturer is exploring the option of a joint venture (with Pacific Pellet Guns) to over-ride the legal bottlenecks.

This will no doubt take time, and until then the HW45 can enjoy it's much coveted title some more time.

On second thoughts, this pistol is likely to be priced much higher than the HW, so it's possible that there may no direct competition after all ...

I'm confused. You are comparing a tried and tested air pistol, which has stood the test of time to earn it's reputation...

with a piece that is still in factory stages, and hint the latter is better?

Or is this just a cut and paste job from the company's promos on it's website?

Been looking at the Kueng website for a couple of years now. They have only been selling seals, washers and stuff. No idea when their airguns and airpistol would be put up for sale. Still in the prototype stage and been that way for long.

While I don't entirely disagree with you, I don't quite agree either. If you look at it this way, no new pistol can ever make it. Remember that what is tried and tested now was new once upon a time. The reason why I said it will trump the HW45 is because the prototype is said to deliver much more power while retaining the advantage of spring piston powerplant (one stroke).

I think it is a bit premature to derive conclusions, based on data released by designers working on prototypes. Velocity data by manufacturers often do not use the same pellets you and I would use in standard practise. Whether any gun/car/plane goes down in history with bouquets or brickbats is solely based on how it behaves in the hands of the consumers, the Joe public.

While I do not own shares in Weirauch, I remember an old article in Airgunworld, where a marksman(the name eludes me), used an open sighted Hw45 to split a playing card.........side ways, at 50yards.

At that distance, even visualising the card was difficult for the observers. Personally, I've found a shoulder stocked, open sighted HW45 runs rings around more powerful but mediocre springers.

Power without accuracy is meaningless. The Kueng airpistol will have it's work cut out if it wants to match the HW45, never mind beat it. If it does, kudos.

Amen to that. I guess only time will tell, but I am very optimistic, given whatever material I have seen online on this. Did'nt look like a large scale unit with it's usual bloated-up claims to me ... Let's wait and see. If it comes out as good as I have projected, you get to gift me one, to compensate for doubting it
