Air Rifle Prices - Disparity

Hello All,

I am looking at getting my first rifle for casual plinking & some pest control.

I zeroed in on the IHP 35, the options were the Jimmy 200 and Canon 65. The Jimmy & the Canon seem to be a little hard to get.

I read a lot of posts on the IHP and found Mr. Makhija's number, however i couldnt reach him. Called the local dealer for IHP in Bombay and he doesnt have stock.

Got in touch with Bandukbhandar and they quoted me Rs. 5,200 + shipping. Aimco on the other hand quoted me Rs. 4,200 + 600 shipping + 400 Octroi.

I also saw the DBS (http://www.daymabandukwalasports.com/im ... M%2095.JPG), the dealer quoted Rs. 8300 where as the stockist (Proline fitness) quoted me Rs. 6000

There is a lot of disparity in the pricing. Can someone please tell me what is the best price for the IHP 35, as it seems the only affordable rifle for me right now (budget of Rs. 5000), is there any canon dealer in Bombay?

I am super confused and seek the help of all the pros here.

Thanks in advance
Sahil

Hi, Sahil,

Get an SDB. Available in Humne, Thane, and M Saleh, Crawford Mkt. I got mine for something like 2000+ (I forget the balance amount). Decent for casual plinking. As for pest control, I tried to shoot a rat, ended up with a broken vase (good gun, bad shooter  )

Try to check the yellow pages section in this site, and call up all, and I mean all, dealers in Mumbai. You might be surprised at the price differentials! (I should have done it, but I joined IFG after I got an airgun :stupid: ).

Cheers!

Hey EssDee,

Which model of the SDB did you get? and which place did you get it from?

I love the 95 coz it looks 20 times better than the IHP, also has a thumbhole and is really comfortable to use.

The only problem is that there arent any pictures and reviews available on the SDB here, I was also considering the Canon 65, but just spoke with Olympic Sports in Calcutta and they told me it will take a month.

I want to get a rifle as good as the IHP (everyone is raving about it) but better looking

Thanks

I got model 27 from Humne in Thane. I am now thinking to get a new stock, with thumbhole and stuff. Which part of Mumbai are you from? If south Mumbai, you can try loads of dealers near Crawford mkt, as I said, call up as many as you can!

Cheers!

I am in Andheri (W). The link i posted was the DBS M 95. I called a lot of dealers today, but none of them had any .22 in stock. Will try and call M. Saleh

One of the dealers mentioned having a AK200 in stock for 4k, any idea about it? I am slowly losing my patience, i dont know what to get.

Today's update from Aimco which I received after depositing earlier quoted price - the prices for IHP N25 have changed (gone up again wrt last month, while I was waiting for inventory to come in) - so add to that S&H thorugh Gati (INR 600 or more) and "Mumbai-special" Octroi (INR 150-250) and calculate. You would probably get closer to (plus-minus) the price quoted by H&H - IHP authorized dealer at Crawford market. Also add a waiting period of about 10-15 days for freight arrival. Incidentally, I have cancelled my order with Aimco today and Aimco's assured that they will refund promptly. That way they are quite professional.

Another good dealer in Mumbai is M Saleh (so I have heard from two different sources- never been there) on Abdul Rehman Street, off Crawford market. I agree with one of the IFG Gurus' (phantumfan2003) suggestion to go for .177 calibre as it is good for plinking and might I add, some serious practice as well. .177 is welcome on all the ranges while .22 is not. At Humne's, I did not see SDB in .177, though some "other" company had it. More information on accuracy/ customer feedback/ MTBF etc. was not forthcoming there. :( So be ready to play Humne's like a slot machine - EssDee1972 seems to have got lucky and purchased a cool & accurate SDB .22 piece. He did have a trigger guard screw problem which sorta pushed me back by a couple of steps just when I was about to try my luck with SDB.

BTW, sahiljatana , I think you can request the Moderator to combine both of your threads - the current one and the one about "Help needed from some Bombay folks" as they overlap.

Probably the first and only time I got lucky gambling!

Actually, airgun had been at the back (very back) of my mind, ever since I was a kid. This time, the better half was doing some apparel shopping, and I was taking a nicotine dose on the street, just happened to look up and saw the sign, walked up, and walked down 10 min later with the gun!!! Probably the first time an airgun was bought as an impulse purchase!! Dunno about accuracy and all (being a total novice, inaccuracies can be due to me as well as the gun!), but the gun is cool. Showed it to the guy at Saleh, he said it was absolutely fine. But yes, if you go to Humne, be prepared for a "take it or leave it" attitude.

Check out the stores in the same vicinity as Saleh (i.e. Crawford mkt area). I know it is a massive pain to reach there from Andheri, plus you can't take the train on the way back if you buy the gun.... There are many shops in the galis and koochas of the area. In case you drive, just park the car in a pay parking area and walk into the lanes. Buy a gun case, so you don't stick out like a sore thumb!

Otherwise, Aimco is a good option, IHP dealer in Crawford Mkt (very close to Saleh incidentally) seems to have permanent out-of-stock situation! I went to Dayma Bandukwala site. Total turnoff (advertising airguns as self defense!!). No idea how the guns will be, but carrying around a Kalashnikov lookalike is kinda dangerous in these days, IMHO!

Don't lose patience, buddy!
Cheers!

@sahiljatana -> Methinks *SDB* is probably different from "DBS" which could be shortened version of Dayma Bandukwala Sports; unless they get it outsourced through the same gunsmith and then stamp it with individual names.

:agree:
SDB does not have the fancy designs of DBS. I suppose someone in Shrirampur, Distt Ahmednagar needs to check DBS out. Do we have any member from there / with contacts there? I feel the fancy designs may have other issues (say accuracy). Needs to be verified. Plus the fact that their website touts these guns as meant for protection makes for a tiny seed of doubt in the mind!
