Taking the shot is a very easy and yet the most difficult thing you can do.
On one hand you may consider that you know how to take the shot the moment you have released it and it hits something, on the other hand you may spend years chasing a perfect 400 or 600 score.
So today we will talk about Standing in front of your pulley and taking the gun in your hand.
So the first thing you need to do is dress up which for first few times will be a mammoth task and even before you dress up you should do some stretching. We will talk about exercises in a later discussion.
So for now I will assume that you have stretched your body done some exercises and are ready to dress up.
How to dress up?
You may notice that your entire kit is heavy and you can’t really bend it, hence follow this routine to dress up. I am assuming that you are right handed (pull the trigger with your right hand) if you are left handed please reverse the instructions.
1. Unpack all your things
2. Install the stand and keep it on right side of the pulley, we will talk shortly about how to install the stand.
3. Keep your gloves, cap, ear buds and glasses on left side of the pulley
4. Keep your targets in front of you and put in the pellets in the pellet box which will be installed on your stand.
5. Now wear your inners (in a washroom please)
6. Next unzip your trousers by bringing the zippers to the top.
7. Sit down and wear your trousers without buckling or zipping them up
8. Wear your shoes
9. Stand up and pull your trousers as far as you can and buckle them up as tightly as you can
10. Wear your belt
11. Next wear your jacket.
12. Put in your ear plugs
13. Put on your glasses
14. Put on your cap
15. Put on your trigger glove in right hand
16. Put on your glove in left hand
17. You are ready to shoot
Try to do this all in less than 15 minutes

How to install the stand
Various stand models come in different design but most designed such that they can be taken apart and transported. Stands come with their manuals and that will be the best place to look at how to install your stand.
Each stand has two components a place to keep your pellet box and a small flat surface to rest your rifle.
The pellet box holder comes bellow the rifle rest. The pellet box holder is at a height from which you can easily take a pellet and load it into the rifle.
The rifle holder is at a height such that you can take the rifle and without changing its height point it to the target, it will take some practice to find this height, I will suggest take help from someone in the range.
It should be noted that the height of rifle rest can’t be more than your shoulders.
How to Stand
We are now finally ready to stand
1. Put a target on the pulley and push it towards end
2. Now stand in front of the target such that in general your left shoulder faces the target and you face the rifle holder, it will take a while for you to figure out the correct position for yourself
3. Spread your legs wide enough to be at shoulder length.
4. Pick the rifle and put it on the rifle stand
5. Put the butt of the rifle on your right shoulder
6. Make a partially open fist or a straight palm and place the rifle on top of it
7. Keep your eyes closed
8. Move into the position such that rifle faces the target
9. Open your eyes and without moving at all look through the rear sight
10. Is the target within the foresight if yes repeat the above stated steps 100 times to ensure this was not a fluke, and after every set of 10 leave the rifle and move yourself
11. If not then adjust your position if you are way off the scale, there are other techniques such as bending back or forward or moving your legs but for now we won’t debate them as we should get into a straight position.
The idea is that the target should come into your field of view in your natural resting position so that you have minimum movement.

nice instructions, I'm sure it can be useful for beginners, what I can add: stand is not necessary at all, for example Galkina Russian Olympic champion, do not use stand Sokolov another 10m russian shooter, he got gold in Munich world cup also do not using stand. But most other using stand and it is very useful piece of equipment.

One thing I like about Sokolov is how he redesigned his Walter alutech, necessity mother of invention. You can see it on ISSF TV.

Level of stand should be on the same level with rifle, if your hands long enough you can keep rifle on stand and reload, while keeping butt of the rifle in same position attached to shoulder. Distance between stand and rifle firing position should be minimal.

another general rule - your rifle should be supported by your bones with minimal tension in muscles.

one more: good shooter give all time for preparation, and little time for sighting and making shot
beginners in opposite give no time for preparation and all time for sighting and making shot.

that timing is very important, for example Katerina Emans spending in finals about 50 second on preparation and 5-6 second on sighting and making shot.

new system advocated by MEC and some Russian shooters called dynamic aiming, they advise only 3-4 seconds
for aiming. Try and that may actually show you how good is your position. If yo have to make so many adjustments to bring rifle sights on 10 it is not so good.
