My New IHP Compressed Air Rifle - Experience

PLs note the wood is brown, but the camera flash is causing a reddish tinge.

Hi,

I placed an request for an IHP compressed air rifle on the 17th of July 2010, and got the gun in my hands today.

About two months...not bad, though there weer days in between i was like its taking soo long :)

The gun arrived First Flight via ground cargo shipping. The shipping cost was Rs595. The gun came in a light blue thermacol and felt lined box which was within a cardboard box, securely packed and tied.

I was pleased in the way the gun arrived.

The gun came with 2 Allen keys, a taparia screwdriver, one warranty card, and some literature on the gun usage. I also had ordered the filling adapter and gauge.

Out of the box the gun came heavily oiled, and today evening need to wipe clean and re oil. Did i mention it came filled with air...so was ready to shoot?

On a sad note the scuba tank i have seems to have a leak near the know used to let out air...need to get that looked into soon.

The gun came with mounted peep sights. My first impression was ...boy this is a heavy gun.

I set up 5 cans, got out my box of P-10's and let loose. I few adjustments later i was able to hit the O in COKE written on coke tins at 10 meters.

There is a sort of twang when the gun shoots, not sure if that is normal, lets see if it goes away.

The metal finish is decent, things that can be improved are the marks machined at teh places where they have drilled for screws. The wood is nice with great grains.

Things i need to take care of

1. Clean and re-oil gun
2. Tighten some loose screws, one screw holding the sight is a bit loose
3. The filing adapter has a small leak, need to fix that
4. The manometer dial cover needs to be glued on.

This is all for now. I will post some pictures tonight, and will keep updating this thread as days go by.

p.s. Wholly recommended for those wanting a good PCP at a low price(27000)

While I appreciate the effort on the part of IHP to think out of the box (Very Indian box)....and also have no idea of its performance or handling... all I could think of is ... ugh! ugly beast.

Thanks for the share, though!

:agree:

Rishu, Dont feel bad and dont take it personally, there is nothing you or me can do ..but IHP people should seriously think about the finishing of their product. I am not sure about it performance , but surely this is one of awful looking gun I have ever seen in my life. I hope the gun wont perform the way as it looks ..and will shoot one hole group in 10M.

hehe, don't worry :) no offense taken, ones mans junk is another mans jewels :). Yep i can myself identify areas the gun can be improved i, but well i am happy with my purchase.

this is said to shoot hole in hole with dia 5mm across across 10 pellets. SO far my few tests ahve been very rewarding. As i still do not have KSRA membership cannot give you a range report, but lets see if i can put up some thing later this week.

Back to the looks, yes it is ugly, but hey i like it :)

/forgot to mention, there is a lot of oil so that is hiding the actual metal finish, which is quiet ok.

But for a club membership, one can get a much decent gun like an AirForce Edge with peep sights for 35K, however, for the time being, make do with this.
Congrats!

Thanks Prabhath, you said it .I can already feel my muscles building :) it is pretty accurate too.

Shot about 50 pellets with it after which the mosquitoes would not leave my legs alone.

Another incentive to get up early tomorrow. :)

Heres a 10 shot grouping i took this morning. This was in the open in windy conditions. Distance was about 10 meter's with g smith P10's.

Ignore the single holes as i have reused and old target. This is a standard pistol target.

as your shots groups low you may need to adjust rare sight and perhaps cheek piece too

honestly, I was quite shocked by the engineering approach used by IHP guys, do they ever hold in their hands German made PCP.

hope you can do some progress with this one and can afford in future to by some better rifle.

Seems to shoot well enough, ignore the looks and see how good you get with it. You need to move to the air rifle target if you intend to compete. That target is another kettle of fish. How is the power?

@Subal das : i have not yet sighted this in, will do over the week sometime, this is mostly out of the box with just minor fiddling.

@dev: Yes its a straight shooter, i am pretty happy with it. The power is decent, Ive shot about 80 shots without refilling and all seems well. Of course the fps is regulated to about 560. I only had the pistol targets, so was using those, will print some rifle targets today and have another round tomorrow.
