"new air gun " poll

Hi guys after reading the 50000th post entitled "please help me choose an airgun" requirements being "long range", "powerful" "accurate" and "economical",
I decided to have a poll to see what people think.
The first few options are your suggestions and the last 3 about how you feel.
More than option IS allowed.
regards
shooter

I for one am
of these posts where the people don't even bother to read the older posts and then start shooting.
As for the part about it being made into a sticky, why not post the contents of the same as part of Knowledge under the Resources button?? Anyone who asks can be referred there. No point in warning if asked once or twice. Multiple offenders, definitely.
Regards

I am a reletive newbie here and the reason people keep asking for the same post again and again is because the post's after a while have so much of information due to the debate that it is difficult to find any information in them.
For example I still have a whole bunch of questions around the air route and post route of importing air guns.
What we need is a Wiki. So that the information remains structured.

Questions like "which airgun to buy" and "how to import airguns" do not fall in the purview of CBSE class X syllabus. There is no NCERT textbook dealing with the right answers to them. All of it is conjecture, based on experience and opinions, which IFG members have freely shared over the years.
You can either swim in this pond of opinions and experiences to get a flair of the problem and make an informed mature choice, or you can expect to be spoon fed individually.
Most of us fall into the first category and choose our poisons. If we like them, we keep them, if not, we moan, exchange/sell them and go for another one.
Those in the second group are the inspiration for this thread

Most often such quesitons are from people interested in guns/airguns and appear here when they google "Buy airgun in India". For obvious reasons IFG will be in the search returned, and there goes the next step; a post asking the question in mind..
IFG has a lot of info and it will defintely take a long period of time to read through and understand, and people not familiar to IFG and came in this way here in the above mode will put up a post like this.
With the information available in IFG, it is possible that the person might loose focus or go stray! (it happens
),
1) we need a Wiki.
2) new visitor can have a quick screen on him mentioning where to findthe info, of FAQs.
3) quick downloadable cheat sheet on the most asked questions. (all of us can come together to prepare this info in a spreadsheet)

Thomas

We must have a system where any newbie logging on should be taken to a compulsory screen/view where the basic expected etiquette(for the lack of a better word) is detailed. (I feel this should happen for the first TEN times they log on)
That screen should clearly spell out the do's and dont's.. plus give links to ALL the threads that are "Recommended Reads" with a clear message that questions like "what gun" etc will most likely be met with appropriate response!
That thread should also detail how exactly to use the "Search" option, and all newbies should be encouraged to use them BEFORE they ask their questions. (not many people are computer/forum savvy)

In my opinion a newbie should be barred from asking question unless and until he has read and spent sufficient time searching out the old and running posts. The authority to ask question should be bestowed upon by the mod's after they feel satisfied that a certain member has spent sufficient time as a temporary member and after this permanent membership with right to float a new thread in the form of question should be given . In this was a member will attain a bit of maturity as well. Because usually the very first post comes as a shock to the fraternity when these so called newbie stung with a question some what like the given example " How can I buy a Fully auto, 10mm magnum class, lazes sight , with suppressor , Bla Bla Bla.

In another forum, namely team bhp, newbies have to have twenty five posts moderated before they are allowed online. Secondly anyone starting a new thread on a previously discussed topic is warned and an infraction is marked. They are repeatedly told to use the search function.
I would love to have the same system here. It would be so nice if I could pump a hundred or so volts into the next wise guys who wants to import a desert eagle. A lot of the newbies are plain lazy or lack the patience to go through stuff.

I strongly believe a sticky which is the first post on the thread and highlighted in a suitable font/colour should contain info on which airgun to buy. I volunteer to create content for the sticky. Ofcourse contents will be same as I gleaned from other forums on the net over a period of time.

A very good initiative and a right step towards finding a solution for this problem . But but but I am 500% sure that we will still encounter certain adventitious questions .

If we go on to the main page of the airgun forum, the starting posts all deal with common questions. This has not deterred people from submitting the same queries
