I have tried searching on Alu vs wood stock on the net, but Could not find a lot of stuff.
I would appreciate if someone could let me know the advantage of each over other.
I am assuming here price doesn’t matter, because price difference between the two rifles is around INR 20K for most manufacturers.

I've never ever seen an aluminum stock. But i have seen synthetic stocks. is that what you are referring to?
I prefer a wooden stock - I like to see the grains and looks more classic.
Synthetic is maintenance free and durable too.

Is it possible to replace any wooden stock by a synthetic stock? I was thinking to replace the AIMCO M300 stock if replaced by a good grey or black synthetic stock it will look nice and will add more punch in it's look.I want a exact replica of the wooden stock of the original gun.

Aluminium stocks do exist, but generally on exotic BR type guns, or simillar ones in general. An example is the RS-1 target gun.


The barrel in this case is fully floated from the recoil lug on, and the action/trigger group is machined from a single piece of metal. The overall gun is very rigid.

Another example of a metal stock would be something like the STGW 57 where again the barrel is fully floated from the chamber, but does have Poly utherane foreend attached onto the stock for comfort. The reciever is actually one piece steel, and the trigger group is in a second piece. Again the rifle is very rigid.


The you have Aluminium bedding. These are typically in synthetic stocks, which have aluminium inserts, and pillars. The conventional wisdom being that this offers greater rigidity to the action than no bedding or normal bedding. My 6 BR has this. I do not have a conventionally bedded stock to compare with. Some people will also apply conventional bedding compound over aluminium bedding for a better fit and greater rigidity. I have no way of verifying this.

All synthetic stocks can in principle be replaced with wood stocks and vice versa. What advantage one would offer over the other, in an airgun I have no clue.

Yes it is possible but a few alterations WILL be required to make it fit.

Or you can contact gamo / crosman etc and ask them to ship you only a synthetic stock and you can alter it yourself.

Trying to get the discussion back to wood vs Alu. The question is around Walther LG 300 air rifles or Feimwok bau Mod 700.
The guns are available in both alu and wood. I want to learn of any specific advantage or disadvantage on the same...

Wood is going to be heavier than alu, specially if the FWB is offered in a jazzy laminate.

While neither models you describe are suited to crouching in the bush, I would rate the alu better for ease of care. You do not have to worry about polish, warping when wet, dents. Just finish shooting and give it a wipe

But, if the gun does not fit you, you can cheaply chisel out or add wood. But, all alu stocks I've seen have adjustable options, so I guess it does not matter.

I suppose the reasons above justify the price difference

By the way, I hope you are aware that the LG300 in laminate wood is a very heavy air rifle, more so with a scope on top

Alu will be more all weather. Less prone to warping with moisture, I am assuming that you are talking about 50m .22? Alum should normally be lighter but then again all free rifles weight 8 kilos so this may not hold good.

Gaurav its a matter of personal preferences, You will have more flexibility in Alu stock , butt plate, grip, canting, cheek rest every thing can be adjusted in a million way, and can be customized to your comfort level, where in Wood the options are somwhat limited, But again wood stock are most absorbant to shock and hard to broke.(Lufthansa is a stock eater these days ..most Alu stocks are broken by them ) Modern Wood Stock are weather free, and dont change their shapes in moisture. some people like the feel of woods in their hands where some feel comfortable with Alu. May be you try both the model in the range to check what suits you better before you go for such huge investments. I presently use a Wood Stock now (601) but may be Later i will go for a Alu version.

I think the initial question was with regard to local airguns like IHP etc and not the cream
