Does .222 air rifle requires a gun license?I request our friends to please clarify this aspect.

It is .22 not .222. O K.
Take a piece of one inch deal wood board.
Place the board 5 feet away from the muzzle of the Air - Gun/Rifle /Pistol.
Fire a shot.
If the pellet penetrates the board then your weapon needs a licence.
Otherwise no.

i. Can you give more details on which gun you are looking at and any pellet details in .222, since 'tis an unusual calibre.

ii. Have you gone through the existing thread on airgun legality in India? If not, when do you plan to?

iii. if on the other hand, if you have gone through the above thread, and it has not provided you with answers, and it's the bog standard .22 you want to know about, please tell us what you exactly what your question is ?

its not .222 ,it is .22 cal. we've never heard of .222 cal

air arms does not need liscense as far as i knew even if it is .177 or .22 cal

Any air gun/air rifle require a licence if it cross the permission limit under GSR 991. Be careful before purchase of any powerful air rifle

.222 Remington is very much a rimfire or centerfire calibre(not sure) and was used at one time by SAS for their sniper weaponery for is straight path trajectory. Can't say if I have heard or seen this calibre weapon with anyone in India.

As per Book, Rule says that "Any Projectile ( let it be any Cal. from .177 to .50 or what ever )propelled by means of Air, fails to Pass the Deal Wood Test, than that propelling devise requires a License."

Thats what the rule says,

but I doubt even IHP 35 model in .177 Cal ( in fact it has more penetration than .22 ) can pass the test even with factory spring.

Please allow me to take liberty to say most of the current domestic production Air-Guns/Rifles will not pass the test

PPL wants the most powerful air-weapon so ppl are mfg. them without worrying about that Big Fat Book

So As per book "Most of the recent domestic/imported sporter (may not be the competition one)air weapon need a license"

The Big- Fat Book was original idea of our former Colonial Rulers, and Babus are continuing it. so there is a wast diff. between Technical vs. Practical aspects of the rules.

Do anything or have any permit/license, Aam Janta is always at fault ( if babu wishes to harress you , he has absolute powers to do so, but pity is that even after 60 years of Independence we Aam Janta is living at the mercy of Babu )

.222 Rem. is not a typo on my part. It is a caliber still favoured by quite a few hunters in the West. It is distinct from .22 cal. Air Rifle. .222 Rem. is centrefire or rimfire cartridge.
