Re: Airgun import experiences - via post/ courier route
Hi GasramGandu, (boy what a nick!)
I checked Pyramydair.com. The cost of IZH 46M is $299.50 + $85 shipping + 35% duty (on $385) totals to around Rs.23,500. Plz correct me if my calculation is wrong. And also let me know if any other charges are applicable?
Apart from the cost, what are the documents I need to have ready? Will they ship it directly to my shipping address or will I have to procure it from Mumbai or any other city airport customs?
Regards
Mahesh

Your calculation is correct.
You will have to have a copy of your rifle club membership card and if available, a copy of your competition certificates.
Request PyramydAir to ship your package by USPS express mail so you can clear your package from your local postal customs.
They will try to ship it through Schenker cargo but this will be a hassle for you since you will have to hire a clearing agent to file a bill of entry at the Mumbai airport. Avoid this method if possible and stick to a postal only method.
If you live in Bangalore then the parcel will reach Bangalore postial customs or the Air Cargo complex if you use Schenker cargo.

Does going through mac1Airgun cost out just the same or is it cheaper? Also do Mac1Airgun also have a proven shipping record?GasramGandu";p="38592 wrote:Your calculation is correct.

Tim at Mac1 is reliable and is very prompt with his shipping. I have ordered from him before and am satisfied.
The shipping cost using USPS mail for an IZH-46 from Mac1 should be cheaper than $85. You can have a look at the USPS rate list at www.usps.com

Hi,
According to the mail I've received from one of the online dealers, USPS will not ship air pistols to India.

Mahesh,
We do not currently have the IZH in stock, but looking at the restrictions for shipping to India (http://pe.usps.gov/text/imm/il_002.htm#ep1379945) it doesn't look as if we can ship to you. As it would exceed the 100 Rupees allowed.
Thanks,
Mary Lee

Tim had shipped both my rifle and pistol thru U.S. parcel post. The pistol cost me $35 some two year ago on postage the rifle cost me about $55. For those of you who don't know mac1airgun and Tim are revered by the ranks as pioneers in airguns. So please don't go begging for discounts as he will be rude or angry or ignore you.GasramGandu";p="38597 wrote: Tim at Mac1 is reliable and is very prompt with his shipping. That being said he is very fair as far as build quality goes and 100% above board in his dealings. He stands behind his products and the tuning he does is really nice.
I normally buy all my stuff from him but in Chinese Airguns I'm planning to get stuff from Mike Mellick of flying Dragons.

Will importing BB pistols or rifles also attract the same duty and hassles? Anyone has any experience on this?

Let me begin with a zen quan what is the bore of a bb pistol?
And if it is 4.5 mm does it entitle you to the same DUTY FREE laws as per the .177 caliber airguns.
Meditate on this daily and u shall have what u seek.

Hey i'm kind of having sleepless nights. I had ordered an air rifle from U.S. it was sent out on the 8TH of appril by USPS. Generally it takes 5 days to reach India - and i havent yet recieved any letter from the custom office. As per the USPS tracking system -
Service Type: International Parcels
Shipment Activity Location Date & Time
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
International Dispatch UNITED STATES 04/10/08 10:40pm
Acceptance BURT IA 50522 04/08/08 1:51pm
Any suggestions or am i fretting too soon. First times really suck, especially when you have a tendency............ you know what!! Should i give a call to the concerned post office, asking if they have a letter for me from the custom office?? Or should i pay a visit to the delhi custom office itself?
Cheers
Sid

Hey Sid,
I had ordered a pistol from BAR ...it was posted on 17th july 2007......
I had lost all hope....but then....... the mumbai postal customs sent me a letter on the 23rd nov 2007 stating that the pistol had arrived...... ie 4 months after it was dispactched....this has been my experience with royal mail.... not sure whether the delay was because of mumbai postal services, or the royal mail services.....
All the best with ur rifle. Hope to hear good news from u asap...
All the best
Regards
Parag

Yup actually one just has to wait it out. Sometimes even after the customs clearance they'll take ten days to get stuff to you cause they don't care that you are having a heart attack in the meantime.
So just real and wait as ther's nothing else you can do. Patience will be needed throughout the exercise therefore you better start practicing. .
Unless the U.S. post sent it to New Delhi Indiana.
