Finally Made it - My diana 240 classic at home with some pellets :)
This is how the story unfolds -

As adviced by the people on this forum, I contacted emirates airlines 3 days before in advance. They needed lots of details and declarations(everthing online) . Then they said they forwarded my application for clearance to Dubai Police, and that they cant guarantee me approval. 3 days passed, and I just had a few hours left. All plans damned. Thankfully, in the last minute they sent an approval. Lesson here for me - Contact them 10 days in advance if you can.
I was also told that the declaration form will be sent to the Indian customs- am not sure of it though.
So, removed the action from the stock, and packed only the action.(Couldn't pack the action, as I was almost sure it would be broken, it seemed delicate at the far end from shoulder).Emirites said I dont need a gun case if I dis-assemble and pack in my suitcase, and I was not in a mood to invest in a case(quoted 4k for the cheapest). It was a breeze till I landed.
And I declared the airgun in the declaration sheet(thats generally handed in the aircraft) and submitted it to them at the Customs and walked through. . He had a quick glimpse at the sheet, and that's all. I am out of the airport.

Cheers,

Congrats lucky sod!

Have fun with your airgun and practice safe shooting.
>Get used to with indian pellets as you will not have much luxury of using imported one.
> Clean your barrel before before shooting for the first time.
> Shoot at least 50 pellets before zeroing.

Hi

As an expat you are not allowed to buy air rifles from SNIPER here in Oman.

Kris,

I had a few questions as I am visiting Dubai next week, hope you can help?

Which shop did you but the Gun from? Where is it cheaper?
What caliber did you buy?
How much did you pay for it?
What were the check-in formalities at Dubai Airport will briniging the gun?

Thanks in advance,
Brat

@Brat,
I bought it from Al-Sayad, opposite to Diera city center. Its definitely not cheaper there, but I didnt have time to scout for good bargains.I paid close to 8k INR. It was .177 caliber. But remember to bargain while buying, you can easily get the price down by 100 dhirams.

For check-in formalities, contact the airlines atleast a week in advance, and they will guide you through the formalities. Emirites is your best bet. My exit point was Dubai airport. Procedures vary for other airports.

Please .. there are a few major "musts" ! Ive just come out traumatised .. you will be running from Police to Customs till your BP rises sky high.
1) Become a member of a recognised rifle club/association
2) Get a bonafide letter from them clearly stating the above
3) Get your ID card from them
4) Proof of identity - Passport , voting card etc
5) Invoice and booklet of air gun clearly showing it is a .177 calibre.

Without the above you will be shuttling from pillar to post and then will either loose the gun, or have to pay a huge demorage charge to customs.

Good Luck !

THanks for sharing the details, highly appreciated
I also wanted to understand which country did you buy the gun from? and what airline where you travelling in? and what was you port of entry?

Thanks,
Brat

Even if you can, you shouldn't do it as it dirties the pool. Why get the customs excited and make it impossible for another Indian to buy, maybe even a target model because of such selfish stunts.
