Re: Airgun import experiences - via post/ courier route

Post by vmanicks » Mon Oct 05, 2009 1:55 am

Hello All,

I have been reading the threads posted on importing an air rifle through post / courier over the last few years.

I am a member of Tuticorin Rifle Club (Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu) which is managed by Tamil Nadu Police.

After taking efforts on deciding on a Air Rifle, finally I chose to order an Diana Mag 350 1.77 with Scope, Case, Cleaning kit, Pellets through http://www.pyramydair.com and a friend of mine in USA made the payment through his VISA debit card on their website on Saturday.

I have taken copies of all available documents from Customs, police, etc.

I would like to know will I have any issues as I am importing the rifle with scope and other accessories.

More over I am regular rifle club member and participate in competitions within the south zone.

Mean while I am planning to get a letter from the club president that this rifle is mainly for club activities.

Please provide your inputs.

Regards,
Manickavel

Thanks Tirths.

Can someone tell me more about their experiences while purchasing and shipping their rifle through http://www.pyramydair.com.

Moreover the shipping address mentioned is Tuticorin (Which is 700Kms from Chennai). Are there any chances of the rifle getting conficated by the Tuticorin Marine/Shipping customs?

I have had stuff shipped from them within USA, but not to India. I hope your scope makes it but I wish you hadn't sent them together. I have heard of uncertain reports that scopes have come in by postal courier also but maybe unaccompanied by a rifle. I pray that your toys come through. Let us know when they do.

the pyramdyair ships via fedex so the custums procedure will be taken care by fedex guys itself you have to submitt the releavent docs like hard copy or soft copy of rifle club detail,Dgft notice etc .Btw i am Too a member in Tuticorin rifle club  .no chance of confiscation untill you have right documents.

Dear vmanics,

Once they have shipped your gun, ask them for a tracking number. Also check with them by what courier have they sent it. USPS or UPS or FedEx as somebody suggest above.

If it is through UPS, then they'll clear it for you. They have offices all over and somebody would get in touch with you.

If you have chosen USPS Express mail or something like that, then it would come to postal customs and you would personally have to go there with the documents and clear it.

Also find out where is it going to be routed through. Mumbai, Delhi or directly to chennai.

Once you are equipped with these information, you'd be in a better position to expect your gun.

My Best wishes with you.
Do let us know once you have it and certainly post the pictures.

Regards,
Deepak

Hello Sankar, Deepak and Tirth,

Thanks for all your valuable information.

Just now I had a confirmation email from Pyramid Air and they have shipped the rifle through UPS. I have got the tracking number and I should be able to track the product at every single point.

However my concern is regarding the scope that comes mounted on the rifle and 4 boxes of pellets.

I am considering of getting a letter from the rifle club that this rifle is only for club training purpose and without the scope the rifle won't serve its purpose.

Please give me your suggestions.

Dear Manicks,

To my knowledge, UPS will take care of everything. Dont worry too much, the parcel wont reach faster. Also, Once it lands in India, it'll keep showing that its in customs clearing. This is the last entry on the tracking that will never get updated.

Once you see this. Call your local UPS office. They'll tell you the documents they need and the date and time they would deliver your parcel to you.

As of the scope, it depends on how the customs officers are. Read my post on what happened with my scope.

Dont worry about the pellets, they are allowed. On this post you'll hit upon a notification that allows import of pellets by members of rifle association.

Regards,
Deepak

Hello Deepak,

The Rifle is already shipped and they have sent the product in two different packages.

I guess the pellets are packed in a smaller package.

Tracking the product is so easy and now my parcel is still in the US space.

Its expected to reach India latest by 8th Oct. Moreover the UPS office is very close to my residence.

I shall visit them in a day or two with the neccesary paper work and keep them informed.

Diana was always my dad's dream, let me make his dreams come true :-)

Thanks
