The air rifle is doing well, great rather. I mainly use it for long range plinking/field target shooting. I use the Barakuda pellets as the heavier pellets do well in this gun.

Browning,

I also use Bara EH's for my Diana 48. I'm wondering how much energy the 460 M really produces. Do you have a Chronometer? To send me the bullet speeds? From that I'll be able to calculate the amount of energy.

Right now my 48 does 14 Fpe with the Bara's.

The F inside a pentagon is called a Freimark. It is required on some airguns, to depict that it doesn't exceed 7.5 Joules of energy at the muzzle. It roughly translates to 12 ft/lb. Airguns with energy greater than this require a firearm license in some countries.

I don't have a chrono currently. When i do chrono it il surely let you know.

Babu, what yash says is correct. But the velocity limiter can be removed in countries wher there is no restricition.

Ai, it says Designed and Engineered in America. It's made by Simmons.

Regards.

7.5 Joule is actually 5.5 ft/lb, or Fpe. That's a rather great difference. 12 Fpe is about 16.3 Joule.

In the UK, you need a FAC for anything above 12 Fpe. In a lot of other countries, it's 5.5 Fpe, which isn't a lot.

Browning, do I take from this that you own an F version, or an 12 Fpe version?

How are you shooting it? From a bipod, or a sandsack?

Thanks for the correction broommaster. 12 ft/lb would be 18 Joules infact.

I am not sure of the velocities, its the standard 460 magnum . I have shot it as it is and have not chronoed it.

Sorry.

Aha, that also explains why you have a .177 in stead of a .22. One doesn't want this gun in full power in .177. That's just bad for the gun and the person shooting it.

I bet it shoots like a real charm then. :!:

Browning, you use the Baracuda Extra Heavies, right? They're 10,3 Grain, so that would covert to a pellet speed of 220 Mps (724 Fps) which places the rifle in a middle class performance section.

Maybe spring guides with a bit of preload trough a top hat will add a slight increase in Mps.

How about Twang? Is it absent?

The Baracuda in .177 weigh 10.65, not 10.3 grains. At the same speed, that a lot of energy difference.

Why does the site where I buy them list them as 10.3 grains, then? The Baracuda Extra Heavy Match pellets are 10.5. Besides, the 5 behind the 6 only matters when you're match shooting, not when you're plinking.

Did you weigh them yourself? I don't have weighing scales, so I'm kind of relying on the credibility of my supplier. :!:

I haven't weighed them myself, but am relying on the manufacturer's website, which should take precedence over all other sources.

5 behind the 6- when calculating energy, we might as well use the best figure available. I agree it does not make much difference though!
