Kovibazar agreed to replace the barrel so I returned the defective barrel back to them
(Packing was a total pain in the a**)

After receiving the returned item they replied with this:
Hi,

Upon inspection of other SBB 65 airgun we found that similar groove exists in other barrels as well.We have taken this up with the manufacturer SDB and they have assured that this is not a defect and have asked us to send the barrel for further investigation.

We will send the barrel to manufacturer and update you on the progress.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
So basically SDB / KoviBazar is trying to say that a rifling defect (a crack in this case) near the muzzle is normal!!

So much for SDB quality control (n) (n) (n)

Looks like I am not going to shoot an airgun anytime soon and over that my money is stuck with Kovibazaar

Kovibazar should have exchanged the product then and there or returned you the money.
They can not hold customer responsible for the defect and made him suffer.
It is there understanding with the manufacturer how they address the issue , a customer is not party to that.

Dear dmsudhir,
SDB 45/65 are generally nice out of the box.
It tend to shoot straight with power from the word go.
The gun will take atleast 500 shots to get to the sweet spot.
I always felt need to tune these guns for superior performance.
My tuned and modified SDB45 hits 2.25" bamboo 10/10 times at 40 yds with ordinery pellet.
What else should I expect from a gun against the price I paid for ??
Hope you enjoy shooting with your new toy.

That's a nice AR you got there.
As currently I am not member of any shooting association so getting this Indian made rifle is best option instead of taking the risk to import one from abroad.

For people going for the cheaper SDB rifles:
Please check the inside of your barrels carefully, as KoviBazar has confirmed that they had a defective batch from SDB. This was again confirmed by manufacturer (SDB) themselves when my defective piece was sent to them from Kovi.

Dear dmsudhir,
Normally these guns have 15-16 kgs cocking effort at the beginning and settles at 13-14 kgs.
I wonder if it is more then that because they use standard 40 coils spring with wire dia of 3.2 mm in both 45/65 models.
Hope this much stiffness will not last after 200 shots.
Till that time , you have to bear the pain.
My tuned SDB45 has 36.5 coils which suits to my requirement of accuracy and power.

Hi Confused_Soul,
It's quiet upsetting when something like this happens to ones rifle. Do insist on the replacement. I got mine only after I was convinced reading several reviews. I do agree with Basu that the retailer should replace the rifle and then take it up with the manufacturermanufacturer and not mix the two. The fact is, it is a manufacturing fault. Even in the most precise manufacturing processes, there are margins of error, what ever the product may be. Sometimes it's "one" in a million........ but there's always that "one". Unfortunately you happened to be the "one " to have received that "one".
I for one do not fall for the claim that all 65's are like that. Looks like it's a tactics to buy time.
See, in all rifle manufacturing processes, the raw material is procured together, usually in bulk, not per model. These are then rifled to requirement. I see no way how every rod was manufactured with a crack. In fact I see some posts of owners of the same model who do not seem to have cracked rifling.
Intriguing indeed
Do insist on a replacement. All the best.

Hi dmsudhir,
> As Basu has rightly mentioned "Normally these guns have 15-16 kg cocking effort at the beginning and settles at 13-14 kg...
> In fact most 10 to 12 foot-pound ARs cock at this pressure....but also depends on the length & no. of coils in the spring....
> I for one shoot 60 to 75 pellets each time I go plinking....yes at the end of the day one's back tends to get a little stiff
> But then with springers & gas rams one has no choice but to cock them to shoot....
