hi Jimmy
why not email the makers of the gun and ask them to send u some screws. or since its only the trigger guard screws, get same type from any hardware shop.

well done jimmy! it is heartening to know your perseverence paid off. btw, did virgin ask you to pack the gun in a seperate case?

as for the trigger guard screws, nagarifle is right. you can try to e mail weirauch/chambers and see if you can get them directly. if all fails , pm me on the details and i'll see if i can send some across.

just in passing, even after detaching the stock from the action, i usually screw the trigger guard back on. it protects the trigger and the screws. learnt it from the chap i bought my 77k from.

ur ar a man after my own heart, its a good practice to put the screws back in the same holes.

still little bit of DIY smithing is always a healthy practice.

10th March 2008, 12:10 am
my brother landed chennai Airport along with a GAMO CF-X .177
It was been detained by customs.

10th March 2008, 10 am
Customs made us seat for entire day and finally they asked as to meet Admin (Customs) to get a letter which will for forensic testing. After the letter prepared by Admin super (Big thanks to him and his team. he is really a very good man and helped us a lot). Handed the letter back to customs officer. Officer asked us to meet next day so that we can take the gun and go to the lab.

11th March 2008, 10 am
A big surprise!! New officers!! Again negotiation. ...

11th March 2008, 3 pm
An officer escorted us and payed Rs.1200.00 (600 for gun and 600 for pallets).

Officer in charge, told us to come on friday(14) however we have convinced someway and he promised us to visit the next day (12 March).

12th March 2008, 4pm.
Chennai airport. Met officers there. Relaized that one who escorted us never left any message to the incharge, on when they should pick up the test result. Therefore asked me to visit the next day.

13th March 2008, 10:30 am.
(In the mean time my brother left and gave me a POA for to collect the gun.)
Happen to meet ASST comm. on the floor. Never knew he is. Told me the document is invalid. My brother has to come to collect the gun. He was tough to me. However, the other customs officers are very gentle I would say. They really wanted to help me to get my gun.

AC told me after lot of communication, that I can get a fax of my brother's passport which will support the POA. I called my brother and he did it immediately.

13th March 2008, 3.00 PM
Finally, we went towards to collect my gun from Lab (near light house )

13th March 2008, 4.30 PM
Chennai Airport.
Officer went to meet AC for my gun to release. AC asked for club membership :((

He was showing the dgft notice!!

Happen to meet the admin super and he was trying to understand the meaning of it. Everyone got stucked in when it is mention (restricted) !!

However he said, he will do some research on that. He suggested me to do some research on http://www.taxindiaonline.com/RC2/index.php3

Anyone can help me to get my gun out??

Tirths,

Once again your post has been split from the thread it was posted on and merged with this (more relevant) thread. May I also take this opportunity to remind everyone here that cross-posting (posting the same thing on multiple threads), is considered very poor practice on online forums (with good reason).

Cheers!

March 21, 2008

One more day spent with chennai Airport with Customs. The person whom I am interacting with is one of the Asst. Commissioner. A true gentleman! He is really humble to help me out. EXIM policy, Notification no. 52 which is really holding him to clear my item. We together sat in front of a PC and browsing the net to find the way out. I took him to this forum too!

He was trying to find out if the item can be called as a toy? However the Forensic report says it is indeed an air rifle. He wanted to ensure, there shouldn't be any legal issues opens up if he clears it.

I almost lost my hope to get the gun out. Trying to find out if any clearance agent can be of any help. Or may be a legal advisory on exim ground.

However, The AC told me, if I can produce any proof, that shows similar item has been cleared without any club membership, that will allow him to clear my item.

Can anyone provide any document as such to me?

Dont lose hope my friend, if nothing works out then consult a lawyer. If airguns are allowed in the country then Chennai is no exception. Fight for it and you will get it.

Good Luck.

Tirths,

I have written about my experiences in getting my airgun released which came in through courier. I did not have a club membership. Think I still might have the papers and stuff(customs related) which I got on the release of my airgun. Let me know if you might need anything from that. I will be more than glad to send it across to you.

Hi Prabhath,

Thanks man. Can you please send me the scan copy of all the documents which allowed you clear your gun from customs. Furthermore, customs might have given some clearance certificate too, I think that will be more beneficial in my case.

You may like to send me by mail [email protected] if forum permits or post it here.

Regards,

Tirtha

Tirths,

Scanning the papers will take a long time. I can send you copies of the papers by courier. Mail me your address to [email protected] with airguns in the subject line.
