Hi hvj1 / Katana,
> Your insight into what went & goes on at IHP was an eye opener, especially that only barrels are made in-house and the rest parts are out sourced!
> Inspite of this and having people with no knowledge or empathy for guns to assemble them - the output is commendable.
> Being pipe manufacturers I hope that the tube for the powerplant is made by them - if not it is short sightedness on their part.
> Instead of suggesting to them as to what a good air rifle should contain etc. IHP should put more emphasis on Quality Control / Inspection of the out sourced items.
> Pardon my ignorance, does Dr. Sirsat hold a doctorate in mechanical engineering? My guesstimate is that he should be because from what I read in your posts.
> May be an informal dialogue with him would open up and we would be the better off for that. Till then..........
Cheers

Brihacharan,

Although I have not had the opportunity to meet Dr. Shrisat, I hold him in high esteem, mainly for the fact that he has done something which a person like you and me would not be able to do so. Namely, convincing the management, workers and importantly the managerial level guys to work on something new after almost twenty years of churning out the same products. Meanwhile, let us not be critical of Dr. Shrisat's professional qualifications. It's the man that counts. (Altough I suspect he is medical practitioner with a fondness for air rifles!) 8)

However, it's time the company focused on producing field grade rifles because competitiveness and allied activities follow field shooting and not the other way around. By focusing on competitive grade air rifles only, they may just loose sight of their main market.

Katana

You are quite correct,he has a very successful practice in Mumbai. His passion for air weapons is somehting to be believed, COntiniouly thinking on the subject to the extent that I sometimes worry he may inform one of his patients, that 'your seals are gone and require immediate replacements" :D

gverma, hvj1

As compared to spring action rifles, the pneumatic side lever air rifle manufactured by IHP could be improved upon if they offer it in .22 cal., lighten the bulky stock and make the trigger a fair bit crisper. Also an addition of a 3/8 inch rail on the receiver would help; this rifle could then be offered without iron sights.

A rifle of this combination would be good for field plinking :)

Good points for a .22 plinking rifle, could you also suggest points to improve the .177 rifle for target practice

gverma,

I suppose you are talking about the Pneumatic side lever air rifle. Well, this one was designed for target practice at the novice level. However, should changes be brought about in the .22 version, then the same changes could be done for the .177.

Katana,

I really dont know the proportation of .22 and .177 Air rilfle users here in India, made by IHP. But, i feel that they (IHP) must do some standard changes in manufacturing both .22 and .177 Air rifles, Compressed air pistols, to withstand the International standard. I mean look, performance, material, other accossries and guarantee, etc. I belive cost factor of all Rifle and Pistol are at par with quality they give. Since .177 Rifle and Pistol are widely used in shooting practcing, and competations, they, first need to bring required changes into these caliber, thats i belive. :) NOT just because i am using .177. I have used their new compressed Air Rilfe and Pistols, good worth the amount paying. But, still, they can do much much better. You see, no matter what could be the price for GOOD QUALITY one for which we all have been discussuing, there are pepole here to PAY for. IHP has infracture, brain, workers and on top of all their current market of all caliber weapon. may be they wont have to face any just to replace their production by better, international QUALITY. Weapon will speak itself of their quality upon use, and may be then, all we will be happy and IHP too  You know what i mean.

Regards,

Jashwantsinh.
