Use the third target from the top for air-rifle.
Really nice target sheets, TenX, thanks once again.

Hotshot,

If I were you I would not shoot at the 10 metre air-rifle target at this point of time, because an aiming mark can be a distractant and a difficult target such as the 10 metre air-rifle one will also prove to be disheartening and discouraging. At this stage of your shooting career you should concentrate on gaining self confidence in your abilities and familiarise yourself with your gun.

My target of choice for a beginner would be a blank piece of A4 size paper with the shooter aiming for the centre at a distance no greater than 5 metres. Do this for a few hundred shots till such time as you are familiar with the rifle, especially the trigger release. Once you start grouping within an inch, you can now consider shooting at targets (but keep them large) at 7.5, 10, 12.5, 15, 17.5 and 20 metres. Do not increase the range till such time as you can group consistently within an inch

Shoot safely and consider joining a rifle club.

I would definitely go by what Rusty said.

Though if you wanna have a bit more fun, try a nice big tin can filled with magazines.. Thats what I used.. There was this cookin oil called postman. They had a huge boxy tin can that was easy to punch holes into. Instant gratification.

There's something about punching holes in cans that appeals to the human mind. :-)

Also, I would suggest you thoroughly clean the gun and barrel. IHP is kinda irritably generous with the lubrication! lol.

There is a huge post on the IHP rifles. Check it out. You're sure to get a lot of info there.

Keep us posted!

Mo.

This is out of curiousity....
Could not the 5m to 7m to 10m be done on the 10m Air Rifle target itself?
:)

"Could not the 5m to 7m to 10m be done on the 10m Air Rifle target itself?"

I think its got to do do with the fact that its kinda difficult to focus on a target sheet in the beginning.

The big A4 sheet would put you at ease and is easily visible. Plus, unless you or the gun is really messed up, you ought to hit somewhere on the paper.

Plus, hitting off target is more often than not, really disheartening. So it'd be best to stick with unmarked targets that are large and easier to hit, till you learn.

No judging in the early stages is the key to development.. for me at least.. lol..

Thats what I feel.. :-)

Re: JUST BOUGHT IHP 35 0.22

Post by hotshot » Wed Sep 24, 2008 5:36 pm

Thanks everyone for all you tips and guidance. Will set me for my journey into air gunning !!! I am enjoying it already and this forum is AMAZING !!!! Thanks everyone.

Will putting a GSmith spring and washers in my IHP 35 0.22 really increase the power and M/V of the gun ? There is alot of discussion about this in the forum but its not very clear what the exact outcome of doing this is !!!

Also are the GSmith Pellets better than what is available normally , for e.g. DIANA

Does anyone have any accurate figures on the M/V of a IHP 0.22

hotshot,
The topic http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php ... c&&start=0 has a whole lot of info on IHP stuff...
GSmith spring/washers should be better, but I suggest you dont do any changes/replacements for awhile. If nothing is wrong, then no need to make changes :)

@Hotshot: I definitely second Tenx on the modifications part.

The Gsmith replacements will improve over the rifle's performance, but will also make it harder to cock and rougher to shoot.

Get used to the gun first. Once you get comfortable and the rifle is broken in, you will have an idea of the performance - Both your's and the weapon's. If then, you feel there is room for improvement, practice more :-) If there is still more room for improvement, get the Gsmith parts.

Always remember one thing, a pellet travelling at 400fps and hitting the target is any day better than one whooshing along at 1000fps no where near the target!

Gsmith pellets are heavier than the regular lot you get. They are of considerably better quality too and also more consistent in shape. Get a pack, see if you like it. I suggest the Domed ones. Being heavier, the range will be reduced. But if you stick with the learning curve Rusty suggested, distance wont matter to you. :-)

I'm a big sucker for mods too :-) But give it some time and you'll have fun. Dont think of all this for now, it spoils the fun. Enjoy your gun, plink more. Kill the spring with all the use and then change it. GSmith aint going nowhere. Even if they do, we'll find you springs and washers and what not!

Ha Ha! I cant believe I've been thanked for advice!! :D

Dont make it so formal bro. Have a good time. Thats what matters.

P.S: Dont forget to thank Big 'Ol Grumpy!! :D His advice you can use, although (at times) it comes in repulsive packaging, the intentions are pure. :)
