From what was explained to me at the Ahmedabad factory, by the good doctor, a bit of the proceedure is as follows:
1. Selection of wood for different types of stocks (177 ord, 177 with cheek rest, 177 pneumatic, etc)
2. Selected wood peices are put into a sort of lathe (much like the key duplicating machine) and the basic outer shape is cut out.
3. These peices are checked for cracks, etc, and then roughed up (maybe sand blasting, but not sure) to remove the small splinters.
4. These peoces are put in another lathe where the center grooving is made.
5. Then, onto another lathe where precice holes are drilled.
6. Stocks are almost finished and checked once again for cracks, etc.; they are also verified against a master sample to ensure all sections match.
7. Stocks end up in the finishing section where they are polished and touched up.
8. Final peices are stocked for assembly with respective mechanisms.
