Nothing wrong with your reading, though I was certain the address was mentioned there. Anyway, now that you have a name, your folks could look up the telephone directory when they get there.

BTW, using a very heavy pellet in a spring piston air-rifle could reduce the life of the main-spring. Suggest you import a couple of these plus a couple of breech seals and piston washers.

I saw the PM and this post.

In Dubai tell the taxi driver GOTO City Centre.

Opposite City Centre ( A Mall ) there is AL Sayad Hunting equipment showroom.

ENter showroom, turn right go to extreme right end and choose which pellets you want. Umarex, H & N, Walther, Webley all are stocked there.

Buy 4 to 5 tins or a few more.

At Dubai airport check in if they open your bags after x ray, tell them they are pellets, show AL Sayad bill, Arbic ENglish no problem. If caarying say 6 to 8 tins I do not foresee any trouble. I carry this much almost everytme I come in.

In India, I wish you good luck that your baggage sails through, you never know what these idiots at the airport can do on a given day, but mostly it saisl through.

Packing advice. Pack them in a black garbage bag and carry a heavy black sweater or jacket to wrap this garbage back in, should bring you good luck.

As for Cabin Crew - unless you want to strike up a conversation no need to talk about pellets. If she is really attractive talk of other things.

Hi Shahid...hmmm...now that's AS specific a post as can be!! Any more specifics & maybe the taxi driver's name would have been added too!! hehe...but it is very helpful. Thanx buddy. I resolve to follow the post in spirit & form, especially the form, if the crew cabin is as he think's she's gonna be! But alas!!...I am not the traveller! (fret fret  ) Next time round for sure!

Thanks Hunter. My folks are put up at Sheraton. So will give them details on both the places & let their local contact decide the optimum.

Hi Mack The Knife: My people are already skittish about carrying these pellets. If I tell them about the spring & breech seal & piston washer, i'll be slipped down a cannon mouth & fired right into Dubai to help myself with them!! :D But I understand what you've mentioned & will make arrangements for the springs to be delivered, in another trip.

Hi Dev: Yep, have tried them & they r good enough. But the "phoren item" bug surely revvs up when a chance presents itself! If u ask me, G Smith's high impact & high speed pellets are decent too, but "phoren" is "phoren".. :o

Cheers!

Carrying the breech seal, piston washer and spring is probably the most hassle free aspect of them all~! You'll know what I mean when you see the parts in question. I second Rusty's advice, get the spares for sure...

Whilst on this post of imported pellets, I wud also like to know if someone has ever ordered pellets online? eg: from Blackpool Air Rifles, or compasseco or any other site? By that, I mean to ask:
1. How's the reliability?
2. Is it feasible enough?
3. What road blocks are faced- aka cutoms, cops etc?
4. How does one effect the payment? Most of the sites insist on a pay order or some other means of payment which is not exactly as armchair easy as paying by the credit card.

It's understood that if someone were to order 2-3 tins it's not going to be feasible but is it still worthwhile is I were to order about 12 tins from UK or USA? Can some members share their actual experiences in this?

Cheers!

Karandheer, unfortunately there is no specific notification allowing/ disallowing the import of airgun pellets. Which for all practical purposes means that the postal customs chaps will confiscate the parcel on arrival. AFAIK the only way to import pellets is via the personal baggage route and that too is limited both by how many tins they will allow you to carry back (they don't always object but just may if they think the quantity is excessive) AND also by the weight of the pellets themselves - As you would be well aware, every kilo of weight counts while travelling by air and pellets are made of lead - so they are not exactly light, IIRC it's approximately 500 grams per tin of 500 pellets in .22 cal. So 4 tins (2000 pellets) add 2 kilos to your baggage weight, so on and so forth...

Not all online retailers require MO/ PO/ PayPal - some like Tim at Mac1Airguns (USA) and Lloyd at Blackpool Air Rifles (UK) do accept international credit cards, albeit in an "offline" fashion. You'll have to give them your Credit Card details and they will charge the relevant amount from your card. Both are reliable and honest people and I have not heard of them ever misusing this information. I have no first hand experience or even anecdotal information on any other online retailers.

Cheers!

hmm..so one more translucent area of operations when ordering over the net. I guess you are right, it's best to stick to the tried n tested viz carrying it in person or asking somebody to carry it. Atleast the chaces are skewed a bit in our favor.

Thanks Abhijeet...cheers!

Try at Al Sayad trading located in Deira near Pioneer Electronics showroom & Captain Dubai Stores at Deira Nasser Square. I once bought .22 Prometheus (steel headed with plastic skirted) from them. They have the gorgeous Diana 300R on sale there too. In these 2 places you can get the best in airguns & CO2 guns in Dubai.

Hi Rebello...yep...someone is gonna pick them up from Al Sayad in a day or two. Do they stock the entire range? As of now I have asked for the following ones:

Pellets name Nos

H&N pointed 400
Air Arms Diabolo Hunter 500
Beeman Kodiak Extra Heavy 500
Beeman Silver Arrow 400
RWS super point extra 400

Abhijeet: Some names which can / should be added to these? Picking just 200 above the 2000 limit which in any case is not well defined. If the pellets have to be confiscated, they will be, irrespective of the numbers i feel. Ofcourse, if I pick 10000 pellets then it's SURELY going to raise eyebrows & a cent percent confiscation!
Rebello: How's the performance of the Prometheus pellets that you picked? Which air gun do you have? I have picked mine for the Diana 350 Magnum, 0.22 cal.

Cheers!!

Karandheer,

When I picked up my my TX 200 I was recommended H&N Field Target Trophy and JSB Exacts (aka Air Arms Field) both are domed and are performing really well in my air-rifle. I further picked up Bisleys, Air Arms Hunter (pointed) and Eley Wasps. Of these the Air Arms Hunters are doing all right, though the H&N FTT and JSB Exacts do group better.

Do keep in mind that air-rifles are picky in terms of which pellet performs best in them. What works in one air-rifle won't always work well in another. Though some pellets usually perform well in most air-rifles. From what I've gleaned in my conversations with Rusty , Dev and searches on the Internet - Crosman Premiers, H&N FTT and JSB Exacts usually do well in most air-rifles.

Try and read up on USA & UK based Internet forums and get an idea of which pellets are performing best in your particular (model) air-rifle.

Cheers!

Yep Abhijeet...read on many of those forums that the heavier pellets do well in the Diana 350 magnum. Hence the Beeman Kodiak extra heavy. But you are right, air rifles have a persona of their own. Case in example: my Diana 350 was performing very well with the Marshall shot (pointed)!! But as advised by the gurus here, best not to be penny wise & pound foolish. If the gun deserves a good pellet, get it!

The performance with High Speed , High Impact & High Split was also quite good. So in any case if I run outta the "phoren" ammo, G Smith's a good replacement till such time a weary (& wary) traveller agrees to bear my load once again! :)

Cheers!

Conducted a little testing with the Mastershot export quality pellets yesterday. I don't know if its me but the first hundred showed erratic behaviour between strings.
Say every third among a five shot string goes haywire. And then I ran out of gas will do some more testing this week.

H & N
Umarex
Webley
Gamo
Crossman- Umarex BB for Walther PPK only.

These are the only pellets available in Dubai right now across all the four shops who sell Air Rifle pellets here.

Was there at Al Sayad last night to pick up some camping gear, an ordinary riflescope for a .22 LR rifle and a laser sight for Walther PPK.

Info above is very current.
