Re: Rws 34 main spring broken
I've used only a few type pellets
rws club and R10
mastershot (yellow tin)
pricipel wadcutter and roundhead(precihole)
the one I use the most is rws club, it's quite good.
I didn't find much difference with club and R10 but professionals will disagree.
the mastershot pellets were not consistent in my opinion some pellets gave good accuracy but others missed the target, some pellets had deformed skirts too. But mastershots were pretty good for plinking though not for paper targets.
I've only started using the precipel so I can't comment yet. but some of the pellet skirts were deformed like the mastershot
Now does anyone have any experience with medical spirit? especially in the compression chamber.

Re: Rws 34 main spring broken
As far as I know it does remove greese. Use paper towels and push them in the tube. MIND you spirit is alcohol and will detonate if left behind so you need to use quite a few passes with paper towels.kiranjosep wrote:I think your right. I guess I'll do it once again today but I have a few doubts. I heard that surgical spirit won't be able to remove grease. Have you tried it before ?
Should I pour the spirit into the compression chamber?
How to remove the spirit from the chamber after degreasing?
please help
thanks
Kiran
Why resembling put moly only on the spring, spering guide and very thin film on the skirt of the piston. Absolutely none on the face of piston seal, make sure to clean the face with a paper towel before you assemble.

From whatever i've read and experimented, it is best to keep out any kind of oil from the compression chamber. One fine coat of moly paste around the seal(NOT on the seal face) and over everything else will keep it healthy for a very long time. Some fine heavy tar coating on the outter of the spring too is recommended. This way there wont be much of dieseling after maybe the first few shots. Some oil in just the barrel will work good too.
I clean everything with kerosene and it works as intended. Right now, my ihp is fully immersed in kerosene pan, except barrel. I'm not sure how it affects the bluing but there is nothing to spot so far.

Re: Rws 34 main spring broken
I applied the Molly only on the side but I guess I put too much.
I'll open it up again and redo the whole procedure.
I'll try the medical spirit to remove the grease.
Thankyou very much for the advice guys.

I simply immerse the compression chamber and other metal parts in a bucket of hot water with laundry detergent for 15 minutes. That kills all the grease and leaves the metal shining. Simply rinse out the parts and allow them to dry. Surgical spirit is 70% alcohol and 30% water.kiranjosep wrote:I think your right. I guess I'll do it once again today but I have a few doubts. Re: Rws 34 main spring broken
Ok now I'm confused!!
I bought the medical spirit but didn't use it yet.
I'm not sure about the hot water and detergent.
the spirit is isopropile alcohol with water which is a safer bet.
but I've read before that we should use denatured alcohol which is mainly ethanol which is made unfit for drinking by adding methyl alcohol.
but I couldn't find it in any of the local hardware stores. They are advising me to use paint thinner, kerosene or turpentine. I didn't tell them the exact use. But I think these things will leave a residue, so I can't use them.
I also read that medical spirit can't be used for degreasing as they add camphor or something to prevent damage to skin by dehydration.
so I think I'll wait try a few more pellets to see if the dieseling will stop. if it doesn't stop then I'll try something.
I'll tell you the result

Re: Rws 34 main spring broken
If you read the book "The Airgun, from trigger to target" you will see that a certain amount of dieseling is considered an essential aspect of air rifle power. But that apart excess dieseling is bad. And it stinks. One way to get rid of it is to buy a box of heavy and totally useless pellets (like Mastershot Hunt) and simply shoot off fifty of them. Dieseling will stop. If you have Moly grease - use the hot water/detergent wash and apply Moly later. Soap and water will get rid of every molocule of grease. Technically medical spirit is 70% ethanol (plus added methanol to prevent use as a drink). Isopropyl alcohol is not "surgical spirit" although it has the same application. Forget paint thinner etc. Soap and hot water will remove all grease.

Re: Rws 34 main spring broken
From what I can remember there was some dieseling when I first started shooting the Rifle out of the box, but it stoped after some time. So I think I'll try shooting some heavy pellets and see. I am afraid of the soap and water because I am scared of rust. This is my first gun and I don't think I'll buy another any time soon. already some of the blueing has faded where I hold the barrel for loading.
Now I'm holding the plastic portion around the front sight for loading and wiping the outer parts with lubricant after every use, but the damage is done. The gun will look real bad if the blueing is gone. So I don't want to use water.
thanks for the advice. Hopefully 50-100 shots will set everything straight.
