with a friend like thee?

Post by dev » Mon Jul 16, 2007 5:38 pm

I wouldn't mind owning one but it would have to be a HW90K. The '90 has a bit of barrel droop.

If you are interested, I could get you one as I know of two that are for sale. Both are 90's though.

Naah can't buy any this year. Anyway I have this blokes one to putter with, as he's too scared to take it home mmmmmpffff giggle (swambo bites-such men among men we are) ;-).

But don't you find the cocking a bit of a pain? I'll try spending an afternoon with it and see. The woodwork and metal finish is really tempting though. Any of the ones on sale having moderators?

Did you have the pump device that they used to supply with the earlier models - to adjust the gasram pressure? If not, how did you adjust the gas pressure? Is it an easy enough process for someone with basic DIY skills?

Cheers!

Dev/ Anupam - lets try for Sunday morning then. Say around 11-11:30ish? Have swapped the scope mounts to high mounts (were medium earlier) and need to re-zero the scope... so a trip to the range is imperative!

Cheers!

Eh? You mean you have been let out? :?

But don't you find the cocking a bit of a pain?

At the highest pressures, it definitely is. But then, I haven't come across one that shoots accurately at those pressures, so its pointless having all that power without good accuracy. Reduce the pressure a bit and do yourself and your friend a favour.

Nope. One (Gasram Gandu's) has a muzzle weight and the other comes with the standard front sight.

I don't have the pump but a friend who has a HW90 does. He also has the manometer. Infact he is on the forum - 375 Double or something like that.

You don't need a pump to reduce the pressure but you will need a chrono. At the back of the cylinder block you will find a screw. Remove this (be careful you don't loose the black o-ring or get any dirt on the valve) and you will see a schrader valve. Use a parallel drift and a mallet to tap the valve lightly. After every couple of taps, put the screw back and tighten it. Shoot a couple of shots or so and then chrono the rifle and also shoot for groups. Keep doing this until you start achieving good groups at atleast 25 to 30 yards.

Mack The Knife

P.S.: When tapping the valve, tap it straight down but don't look staright down as a speck of dust from the valve or threads could hit you in the eye.

I remember that day very well, Rusty. Turned a horribly innacurate gun into a sweet shooting accurate one....I'm really happy with my 90, it's just that the PCP itch has set in

Ah with Rusty's work on it may be a very worthwhile rifle to own. And I think it will be much more hassle free than a pcp cause all of em need to have leaks fixed and o-rings changed. Of course they are still lovely to shoot.

Lets see if pal wants to have power level tuned down a notch, not that I plan on doing it for him.

Regards,

Dev

You can hardly call it work. All I did was follow the procedure outlined in my reply to Abhijeet. You should also be able to find it somewhere on the Theoben website.

Don't hesitate in doing this if you want to reduce the power on your friend's '90.

Seems like I will have to be out of town for a family function Sunday-Tuesday... So afraid I will not be able to make it this Sunday - try for Saturday or next weekend?

Cheers!
