Re: Prices for Diana Model 36/Magnum 350 from Dubai
Many Many Thanks Shahid,
Please update:
1. What would be the final cost of 0.22 bore (Mod 35/36), including the taxes, duties and other charges-if any, to me?
2. When are you are planning to come to India? Or when is the earliest the same can be brought/ or the delivery can be arranged? I reside in Delhi, fyi..
3. How to go about the payment?
Best regards,
Sharan.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I really doubt if someone you only know through the net/ this forum is going to bring over an airgun for you at cost!! Call me a cynic, but I'd imagine that there would need to be some profit motive for someone to go through the trouble on someone else's account, unless they are really good friends of yours (actually maybe not even then)... If you do actually manage to pull it off, more power to you!
Cheers!

Abhijeet,
Really appreciate that you hated to burst my bubble...
But my bubble is not that i should get the Air Rifle at cost price. My bubble is to get the same as early as I can manage. But, at the same time i don't want to pay my hard earned money -Rs. 35-40K to G Smith (Pune) or 45K to Oriental Arms (Delhi) or so on..
I know that there is lot of pain and lot of efforts involved while importing any thing from abroad. Any body who will bring any thing from overseas, tries and make a good money from it, and I believe he has a right to do so. So, I have asked Shahid to tell me the final prices including all charges, including for the pain- he will be taking for me.... If I found Shahid's offer viable, will go ahead and avail his services, otherwise, will wait till i will be able to stuck the deal him..
Thanks to you, to remindng me the same in plane jane language..
Cheers....
Sharan..

Glad to hear that you are a realist Sharan... I just thought I'd clarify the point, especially since I remembered that the last time someone from Dubai had got a Diana airgun he'd sold it for a tidy profit... not very far from the prices you've mentioned above...
Hope you find what you're looking for, at an affordable price...
Cheers!

I have made no offeres - please.
I have volunteered to find out and post the available prices in Dubai market, for models available here currently.
Carrying it to India, customs, duties etc. is not my cup of tea at all. I am myself unsure of the rules.
Purchases on behalf of anybody will be made on transfer of 100 % of the amount in Dubai, and delivery to be given in Dubai only, or arrangement for collection to be made strictly in Dubai.
Further, at today's prevailing prices, and the difficulties associated in importing Air RIfle s into India, do expect prices in the region of 35 K to 50 K depending on the model.

If someone carries an air rifle in for you and as you say are willing to pay the price, you will still be at square one. You will stay end up paying a good bit, it may e better if you pick one up from B'glore if Mack The Knife agrees to help out in locating one for you. Olly has a superb Hw 77 at 30 k and I think it doesn't get better than that.
Unless you go and get one yourself.

Re: Prices for Diana Model 36/Magnum 350 from Dubai
Hi guys...hmmm...so once again the eternal debate on importing the pieces we desire from the various lands of promise!!
At the onset, a clarification: I am no where close to understanding the technical nuances of guns...no where close to where some of the members in this forum are. However, I am very well acquainted with the purchasing of air guns & have done quite a bit of groundwork on this. Maybe within a limited cross section, but well enough to understand the "trade talk".
My takeways: (& i do hope to be corrected on some of them)
1. Extremely difficult to lay your hand on an imported brand new piece at the prices that we all see on the net. In fact, no where close.
2. Quite difficult to import one (especially in 0.22 cal). For 0.177 cal, we have to be a member of a rifle club...& then too that would surely entail a bit of mule work.
3. The debate between the efficiancy, accuracy, stability, power etc of a Diana / Weirhauch / Gamo etc will continue life long. Each piece is an individual by itself & all that we can basis on is past track records or reviews. Best would be to be convinced on what u are buying & set it to the expected standards. Needless to say, you cannot buy an 800 & tune it to be a Merc...but I guess most of us do not attempt that anyways!
In light of these, I have come to the following conclusions:
1. Negotiate & bargain hard with your friendly neighbourhood gun store. Get the best rate possible, be convinced about it & go in for the weapon. It's a pleasure to own 1 & in all probability it would last a life time. (unless there is an urge each month to seek & attain a new one...like me )
Additionally, once the rapport is struck, this shop can be a constant source of supply for you (pellets, oil, gun smithing etc)
2. Importing is liable to cause misery unless u r solidly in with the men in white, blue & what have u. The rampant shoot outs in India (no where connected with air guns but a GUN none the less) makes it all the more difficult.
Within a further limited scope of my knowledge, I can safely quote the following:
1. For Dianas, Gmsith is the best dealer. In addition to rates (which are always better than the general market rates), his knowledge & other material supply is reliable.
2. He is a reasonable guy, but then if some1 were to ask him a Diana 350 for 20k, he is bound to retort & say "get me a dozen for 21k!". Guys, lets face it...imported air guns, as a commodity, are in rare supply. To add to it, all dealers are extensively networked within themselves. I am aware of some dealers in Pune who procure their supply from Gmisth & palm them off to unsuspecting buyers with a neat profit added!
Instead, gel with the neighbourhood gunsmith & get what is wanted at reasonable rates. Atleast till the time import restrictions are relaxed. That brings me to another question which some1 can answer...are import restrictions on our lovely guns gonna be relaxed?
Cheers!!

After such a long blather you still have zilch forget anything new to add. So sunshine wake up and smell the coffee burning. Import restrictions have been relaxed from two years ago. But you have to do the correct paperwork. This has been written and covered several times. It is not a pain to get a quality .177 air rifle in by courier and neither is it a pain to get a .22 in personal baggage. Do your homework and go ahead.

Dev

Let's make this simple. the procedures are clear (for most parts).......there IS no debate at all. just a get-your-a@~$%-the-chair-and-do-it situation. like inder's (and my) pro sport, or abhijeet's tx200, or jonah's airgun,or sat's 77kkarandheer78";p="34447 wrote: Hi guys...hmmm...so once again the eternal debate on importing the pieces we desire from the various lands of promise!!

Karandheer,
Either you are a 'friendly neighborhood gundealer' yourself or are the victim of one. Also,it is not essential to be the member of NRAI or even the State Rifle Association to get one across in post. You can even be the member of a District Rifle Association. Now how hard is that

Airgun import experiences - via post/ courier route
Airgun import experiences - via personal baggage route
HTH
While this may be slightly OT, I'd like to point out here that any claim by an Indian company of being an authorised dealer of any foreign manufacturer seems a little far fetched... why? Well, because commercial imports of airguns are NOT permitted, which means that these so called 'authorised dealers' are simply doing what the other arms dealers do - which is reselling airguns imported by individuals, either as part of their personal baggage OR by shooters through the courier/ postal route.
This of course means that the prices quoted include a profit margin for the individual who imported the airgun AS WELL AS for the dealer who is reselling the airgun in question. Since the demand for imported airguns far outstrips their availability - the prices charged are undeniably on the higher side.
Whether one chooses to import an airgun themselves OR to procure one through a local dealer depends entirely on the individuals budget AND desire/ capacity to undergo a little bit of additional hassle. Personally I believe that the added hassle is more than offset by the fact that:
a) You will be getting an assured brand new piece. Not something which could have been used and abused by someone... appearances can and often are deceptive as to actual condition (hint - think repeated dry firing for 'demonstration' purposes)
b) You can pretty much CHOOSE which model to buy
c) The end price will be definitely lower than what a dealer would demand
d) Since in the case of importing via post/ courier the individual would be taking membership of the local district/ state shooting association - there is the fringe benefit of coming in touch with more members of the shooting fraternity and maybe even getting access to a local shooting range.
e) As more and more people decide to import themselves in stead to using an arms dealer, the prices quoted by these (most often unscrupulous) dealers should eventually come down to somewhat more reasonable levels - they will NEVER be close to international prices though, we will have to wait for the govt. to permit commercial imports for that to happen.
Just my $0.02 worth... the choice is entirely yours gentlemen...
Cheers!
Abhijeet
