BSA started manufacture of this in 1908.
I think manufacture started in 1905. Infact I am so certain of it, I would challenge AGW or AG on this.
Since this is not a Greener made version (rare, if the numbers given by you are right), then I doubt it would command a hefty asking price.
By 1910 they had made 10,000 of these, so they aren't exactly rare but still definitely worth owning for a collector.
It's a lovely air-rifle and should be maintained for it's history but I don't think it was anywhere near as powerful as the spring -piston air-rifles available today.

It was a Greener Made gun, not BSA which was sold in the auction. Although all are Birmingham made perhaps in the same factory or at least sourced parts from a single factory.
The article mentions 1908, maybe the author has errors in his research. Air GUn World is a pretty popular magazine in England and do some very good product reviews.
It is with this recent revival of my interest in Air Rifles that I fished out some old issues from my archives. WIll pick up new issues once I go to England again this summer, perhaps end June, to accomodate a trip to Wimbledeon as well.

Shahid,
Did the article mention 1908 as a general date of manufacture or for that Greener made/labeled model specifically? Which issue (month and year) and which mag? Was it written by Tim Saunders?
I subscribed to Air Gunner until two or three years back and still have an ongoing sub with AGW. Neither of these comics really interest me any longer but I keep renewing my sub out of habit.
Also, lately a lot of my mags are getting pinched in the post so I am going to stop when the sub lapses.
I also happen to know a few of the writers personally, one of whom is the Technical Editor of AGW and a close personal friend of mine. We were actually supposed to have gone fishing from Feb. 18th to March 3rd this year but he had to cancel due to health issues.
Having said all that, I would advice you to take the reviews with a pinch of salt at times.

The author mentions he checked records at he BSA factory. Some kind of production record register from those pre World War 1 days.
Also there is mention of serial numbers. The antique nature of these Air guns interests me. I thought the old BSA cadet Air Rifle I had dating back to 1950s was really old. But here these guns are half a century older!

Good to hear all about my air rifle, now i am very curious to reach India and take some close up picture & post them here for better Idea.
Nothing is engraved on the rifle ,no number ,no make ..Only No.2 & BSA on the stock(checkered).
Mack The Knife it is very powerful @ Accurate,in comparison to .22 National air rifle.I also own a nation gun & did a comparison.
I dont have a velocity measuring instrument owise i would have measure the velocity of both the rifles.
Thanks for the information.
Badshah.
