What is a Magnum Air rifle?

Hi Guys, Can you tell me what is the difference b/w a magnum air rifle and an ordinary air rifle?

Magnum are advertised as delivering higher muzzle energies to the pellet. For example, they may have stronger/bigger springs than ordinary models

In General magnum air rifle refered to that cross over the 900 fps limit .in magnum springer the 900 fps is gained by big compression chamber ,heavy spring which results in heavy cocking and harsh vibration/recoil during shooting which always makes the shooter tired after few shots itself . best example are rws 350 magnum and 460magnum .dont carried away by the word "magnum" in springers .

> As rightly mentioned by Striker aka Shankar - Magnum Air Rifles are those that shoot 0.177 pellets anywhere between 900 - 1000 fps & Super Mags shoot between 1100 - 1250 fps. For 0.22 cal pellets the fps drops by approx. 20%, but have greater knock down power due to pellet weight.
> It depends on:
1. The size of the powerplant, piston, seal & spring.
2. They have a break-barrel pressure (force reqd. to cock the gun) of anything between 35 to 50 lbs.
3. Because of these most Mag & Super Mag Air Rifles are fitted with 'Muzzle Breaks' - to reduce the vibration & noise.

> However the choice of the 'type of pellets' one wants to use depends on one's personal preference as well as for what purpose it is used:
> Eg. Plinking / Target practice / Pest control.
> There are basically 4 types of pellets available:
1. Round heads - Ideal for pest control
2. Flat heads - Good for target practice
3. Pointed heads - Plinking
4. Hollow heads - Pest control - Target & Plinking
