LOL TenX, LOL

you enlighten me!!

I must mention that an air rifles have a jerk which is retained in the gun & not transmitted to the shooter, It is a Thud, which is very different from a 22LR

a 22 LR gives a push, a little push which is transmitted through the butt plate to the shoulder of the shooter.

In an air rifle, u hold it anywhere you will feel the jerk more on the barrel end.

Try it to believe it.

Talking about kicks & recoils - when discussed with friends while "plinking" once with a 470, 450/400 & a 375 all double rifles.
I observed & also found it true that the big rifles 470, 450/400, & 500NE have a push unlike the jerk you get when firing a 375H&H. further a double rifle is always calibrated to be used on a particular grain of ammunition.
Further the right barrel when fired, the rifles pushes back & the muzzle end swings a wee bit to the right and above.
In the instance of firing the left barrel the muzzle end of the gun swings very slightly to the left & more above.

I know someone who has even dislocated his shoulder firing the 505 Gibbs, the rifle with the worst recoil.

I take it this is a spring piston airgun? If so then using a vise or any other mechanical device to "hold" the gun is a no no! For best results hold the gun like you would normally do and try resting your forearm on something for support. Never rest the spring piston airgun directly on a support. This does not apply to pneumatics (pump/ PCP) or CO2 airguns.

Also allow the airgun to recoil freely by using an artillery hold. Make sure that the hold & stance is consistent between shots.

The vertical stringing could (possibly) indicate that the gun is producing inconsistent velocities. In which case you may need a new spring+washer and/ or possibly have to replace the breech seal.

If the trigger pull is the primary problem then I would expect more horizontal stringing in the groups.

Cheers!

thanks abhi for great suggestions but the gun is new and the breach seal looks fine may be we can change it with a synthetic one

zeroing with a vice is a mistake which i will not reapet any more. now i have used standing stance while zeroing

thanks

If it is brand new then allow the gun at least 500 or so shots to settle in first... barring mechanical problems the velocity should even out by then.

Cheers!

Better still if it is on a target, and is in groups of around pellets.. The series will also show your consistency, if you know what I mean :)

.. And I am NOT laughing...

Whatever you are comfortable with....
If you will try with say three rifles, then just paint three dark rings on a sheet of paper and shoot like 5 shots on every black with a different rifle. You can repeat this with different ammo to see what fares better.... Just my suggestion :)
