Went on a recce today
I was in town and went window shopping
Tahir Arms : Saw a Diana 4x20 air rifle scope in a Red and White box that did not look like an original Diana. It had a plasticky feel to it. Price was 2000. Had four of them. He had a Diana 35 s/h for 25K, 27 s/h for 20k and a BSA (big one dont know which) for 30K. Also had a brand new Weihrauch, 50K+.
Indian Arms : Had a lot of Air rifles, mostly foreign looking ones but was told they were not for sale.
He had mostly air rifles. But none for sale which I found quite strange
Bansons : Had some foreign new air rifles all 50K + RWS 54 and a Weihrauch (HW80 I think)
H & H : Had a Indian underlever, which was very interesting...does anyone know more about this rifle ? He also had a BSA junior model (must be a Meteor) in a bad shape s/h for 12K.
Almost all had a Air rifle called Hunter which was a big magnum like gun but the finish was not good.
Did'nt cover all the shops though...
Had a good time

Re: Went on a recce today
Hi Fantuman,
The underlever which u saw at H & H was a model called jimmy i had went to that shop to buy IHP MOD-35 .22 CAL at that time i saw this gun can i tell u some thing thats the worst underlever i ever saw in my entire life
the spring in it was totally rusted thats why the cocking effort was more than a normal & the groups were more than 4 inch i had fire 3 shot group all went spread & the guns which u saw the hunter make are total shit even if they fall accidently from your hand the barrels bend.
i had one of it i purchased it from M Saleh & co.below bansons
they r basically kolkata make the worst thing is that they use all faltu material for there barrels i can bet on it for sure.
Pata nahi yaar woh din kab aayega jab india Diana aur gamo jaise guns banayega jinke is bharat desh mein zaroorat hai.
And the scope u saw was not Diana(german Made) but it is china make.
went to bansons they had one Diana mod-54(side lever) the price was 54k
but i had pointed out that there was some problem with the barrel.
The banson people r very friendly they suggested me not to buy any indian air-rifle except IHP.
My Father in law had purchased one shotgun side by side for 1lakh 46k the russian made from there shop at that time they also showed him the shotgun which belongs to shammi kapoor that gun was remington over & under shotgun for 2 lakh.
If u can call me i can provide u the information for all shops PM me for my number
Thanks & Regards
Ketan

Re: Went on a recce today
It was great fun partly because all the people talked nicely and showed me what I asked to be shown particularly in Tahir, Banson and H & H. I would hhave loved to see the Air rifles in Indian Arms but was told they were not for sale.
I am planning to go there tomorrow again. Two is good company and three is a great crowd so anyone from Mumbai wants to join me ? Will even visit the Savarkar range on the return leg.. Any opinion on how is the Commander Air pistol. They appeared to be well made.

Second Recce
I do not know about it but its clear its not as well made as the IHPs
And here is some more news from my second recce today
H & H has got two Diana Model 16 smooth bores and a Diana Model 1 (no typo here) each for 7K
I will likely pickup one of the Model 16's for my son if I get a good deal.
Today visited Bombay Gun House on advice from Parag. They seem to be the experts in repairing springers. Saw tons of them in various states of repairs. They even do bluing there. I found Guddu hand carving chequering on a stock. He was very business like though... but nice to know of the place any way.
