Cheaper match grade rifles-Request opinions

Post by eager » Fri May 02, 2008 3:24 pm

Please advice me on these surprisingly cheap match grade pneumatic & PCP rifles

1. Benjamin Crossman Discovery - $239 - Rs.9560
2. Benjamin Crossman Challanger 2000 - $329 - Rs.13160
3. Daisy-avanti-853c - $275 - Rs.11000

These are much cheaper than the Fienwerkbau P700 & Walthers' starting at $2300 i.e Rs.92000/.

Do these cheap rifles stand upto the giants?
Is it worth imprting them for championship purposes?

Pl. advise!

thanks in advance

Hmm good question... Not entirely impossible I suppose, with the proper training, preserverance, skill, talent, and lots of luck one could cream the nationals or an international event with a meagre $300 airgun - (In theory) But if this were true and possible with even a 10% success story out there, you would see most of the big name manufacturers filing for bankruptcy.

On the other hand a Russian factory team won gold at the olympics with a meagre IzhBaikal 46M which is an under $250 airpistol. I believe these airguns are good enough as starter guns and at club level competetions. But one does need the best available (read costly) airgun which gives the shooter the max. permissible advantage to cut the competetion in bigger competetions like the nationals.

Thanks for your opinion. But the point is still not clear enough. Although the Benjamin Crossman Discovery is an entry level PCP but the Benjamin Crossman Challanger 2000 & Daisy-avanti-853 & Daisy-avanti-753 are touted as match grade weapons by their manufacturers and are said to have won many a NRA (US) events. Though these appear less sophisticated than the Fienwerkbau & Walthers' they still contain the same basic apparatus. The crossman even has an adjustable cheek rest.
As for accuracy I think that other than basic quality of worksmanship of the rifle and the hand steadiness of the shooter, the only two factors that matter are-
1. Consistancy of the air pressure &
2. Absence of recoil
All other factors can be adjusted by regular practice.
Further enlightenment on this subject is requested from all so that I may make up my mind to import one of these rifles.

Thanks in advance,
