[Problem][SOLVED] Scope creep on spring air rifles

Post by Scarecrow3 » Sun Nov 30, 2014 2:01 pm

Recently bought a precihole sx-100 orion from a guy here who duped me by selling me a fake bushnell scope and passing it on as an original(beware,he's a member here). Anyhow, one problem that the scope seemed to have is 'creep' which basically is the backward sliding of the scope due the unusual recoil of spring piston guns (yes, the mounts were fully tightened). The grouping was haywire, virtually needing zeroing after every 5 shots.

Google told me that this problem is not uncommon among high powered springers. A few solutions which cropped up were, to use a truckload of adhesive, a weaver rail, a 1-piece mount or a scope stop ( http://www.gamousa.com/product.aspx?productID=107 ) . Since, these were not easily available in my area i went and bought an extra set of 3/8' dovetail rings.

So i screwed two rings each, forward and backward i.e. a total of 4 mounts grouped in two's. This seemed to solve the problem and after 25 shots the scope still seems to hold its place which is good XD .

Here are the links to the problem posted by users on other forums -

Hope this helps :D

EDIT: Purchased a one piece mount with a Vertical stop pin . The vertical stop pin is really important to prevent creep. A hole has been provided on the SX/NX series for the very same on the receiver.

Plastic tape (1 inch width) at the end of each mount will make it stay in place atleast for 500 shots (personal expierence on my NX-100 .22 which has Leapers 50AO mounted).

I do tighten all the allen screws on my NX-100 including the mounts after every 500 shots, just so that accuracy is not lost.

Scarecrow,

Please send me a PM in regards to who sold you a fake scope and if you have tried to correct the situation with that member.

We are not the Internet Police, but if a person develops a habit for misrepresenting and selling items we would like to know about it and would be willing to do something if said person creates a history but the only way we can do that is if the members let us know when a deal does not work out as planned.
