Anyone knows what you call the plywood that absorbs the pellets, think its unusually grainy

It is better to use any soft wood rather than Plywood, as flathead pellets tend to bounce back. Or use MDF boards which are slightly soft than hard plywood. If you are planning a Pellet catcher, better fill the inside of the box with soft material. Silicon putty works best, but i have used glass putty which is equally good but tend to harder over the years.
Some learn by reading. A few by observation. The rest of 'em have to pee on the electric fence.

Do not use wood. Wood can lead to vicious ricochets. A square metal frame with a cloth curtain behind would be good if you could figure out a decent way of fiing the target sheet to the frame. It should be possible using paper clips and some innovation. I have used "Blu-Tac" but that is not wholly satisfctory.

One of the options in to attach epe foam ... which is also called as hitlon .. very cheap and it absorbs pallets as well using drawing board pins we can attach targets also. ..

You can get it at any foam and furnishing store costs rs 90 for 4.5x3.25 feet
I am dealing in it. ..

Pls suggest idea
