Warm regards to all the esteemed members ......
I am a new member here.Got my first airrifle today from Garg Armoury Delhi. It is an IHP
National 35 0.22 calibre. Rifle is good. I had come across an android app by the name of chrono connect for measuring fps. I want some valuable advice from seniors on its efficiency.... I know velocity is not everything but knowing some numbers does no harm....
Regards....

Re: Efficiency of Chrono Connect
Welcome to IFG ,this app will give readings based on the input values, that is range, distance from muzzle to device, distance from device to the target etc, more accurate the input values ,results will also be accurate . its better to use a metal plate as target so that sound is clearly received .and from my experience it gave results varying from 400fps to 550 fps for my ihp 35 in 0.22, which actually gives 400-450 fps (using audacity software).
update.
pellet used was mastershot round head's. which weighs 14.5 grain's approximately.

Re: Efficiency of Chrono Connect
The single most important number is the weight of pellet. If you are a dedicated competition shooter - you are looking only at making holes in targets so weight and muzzle velocity are less critical as long as accuracy is good. But if you are a plinker - the ability to punch holes in things and make targets jump is important - and for that you are better off with heavier pellets and those heavier pellets will give you lower muzzle velocities. Najad's post above is spot on. On my IHP 35 and Orion I have measured velocities ranging from 140 to 180 m/s (about 450 fps to 550 fps) depending on pellet weight, sound/echo characteristics of the sound recording area, and the mood of the rifle and sofware that day. But the higher velocities are with lighter pellets.
This morning I saw a video review of the Daystate Ranger - probably a .177. It was delivering 1000 fps with very very light pellets (5 point something grain - Grain is the most stupid and irritating metric in the universe. Why do people even use that idiotic unit?) . Light pellets are not much fun as they don't deliver much energy over longer ranges.

Re: Efficiency of Chrono Connect
Dear Gurjar Lion,
I am a regular user of cronoconnect application.
It took me some time to settle with this application.
It did not work at all in my Samsung Galaxy Android Phone.
It always gave me data almost double or more then actual data.
I used the same application in Samsung Tab 2 and it was showing low velocity.
In view to above ,I wrote to cronoconnect and received a reply where I was suggested to use headset as microphone.
Since the time I started using head set, I am getting reliable data as same have been cross verified with Audacity and found authentic.
However, I do not have any light crony to further verify it.
My finding is that echos disturb the sound sample to be read by this programme.
suppose you keep the target at 9 mtrs , you need to ensure that the muzzle sound echos do not interfere before target hitting sound is captured.
It also depends on the hardware of the phone that how sensitive it is.
There is always a scope to cross tally the cronoconnect with Audacity.
Now I am very Happy with this application.
Basu
Note ; All the distances to be measured is nearest inch/Cm by tape to arrive at actual figure.
To read the Audacity Data, is also a little critical at times.
