The company claims that it is a near recoiless air rifle, especially the action being bedded on a floating rail!

Dear Briha,
54 is indeed a recoil less rifle but it thats only for shooter.....( shooter do not feel any recoil )
Actually scope/action gets double recoil very hard
thats why many magnum scope (airgun rated) got wrecked on 54

have been using Bushnell Trophy 6-18 x 40 on Diana 48 at least 15000 shots successfully, but same scope on my friends 54 did not lasted 500 shots,
cross hair broke and turrets got loosed on that scope.
You mean Bushnell Trophy 6-18x40
AO !!!! this is one of the best value for money scope...
Sometimes if you want to get rid of the gun, you have to pick the gun up.

Correct,
Bushnell Trophy 6-18x40 is one of the strongest medium priced scope for Magnum Airguns,
( one can get it around US $ 240 or so)
Initially they were Made in JAPAN, now a days they are made in China with QC of Bushnell
Hope this helps

Very Good idea actually. You will need proper foresight and a rear peep for it. You will still have to figure out a way to tighten the rear peep sight so that it does not shake itself loose after the jarring the mechanism goes thru after each shot is fired.
Here are some useful links for the same........

The last one is like you...moved to peep sights coz his D54 broke his scope.

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.

Things I liked about Diana54 Air-King:
They don't call the Diana54 Air-king for nothing, I've had lots of air rifles and none of them hold a candle to this one. You'll never have to make excuses when you own a 54, the best analogy is it is to the air rifle world what the 220 swift is in the varmint gun world, top of the heap looking down!
What others should know:
THIS GUN IS DEATH ON SCOPES AND MOUNTS, BUY AN ANTI-DROOP BASE AND USE CENTER-FIRE RINGS TO HOLD A 3X9 OR 4X16 UTG TRUE-STRENGTH SCOPE WITH LOCKING RETICULES. HAD MINE for TWO YEARS AND COULDN'T BE MORE PLEASED.
Cheers
