Guys,

am planning ot go to Target Point over the weekend to check out some air pistols.

any pointers?

I spoke to the proprietor Mr. Shafi on the phone andhe mentioned that he stocks Blanco and IHP in Indian brands and quite a few inported brands, both spring loaded and CO2 loaded ones.

what is the prevailant rate for theseimported guns....just so that I dont get ripped off :)

Cheers

Sorry to say but all Indian made air-pistols I have seen are pretty crappy... I have seen the IHP CO2 pistol only advertised on their website, never shot it so cannot comment on it's quality/ accuracy but it may be the cheapest available option as it's priced at ~ INR 10K.

There is no MRP on imported airguns, so the dealer will in all probability evaluate your capacity (to pay) and desperation (to buy) prior to quoting a price that will in all probability make you weep! Another member had mentioned that the Umarex made CO2 air-pistols which retail for less between $100-200 or even less than $ 100 in some cases (depending on model) are being sold in Mumbai for INR 25k  And these are just guns good for casual plinking, besides they use the disposable 12 gram CO2 cylinders which themselves are hard to source and expensive to buy AND cannot be refilled.

If you want to zero in on a suitable model, start by figuring out your intended use and max budget - it would make it a lot easier to offer advice.... Anyhow, make the trip to Target Point and have a looksee, write down the model no's and the price they are being offered at... come back and let us know, then maybe people here would be able to offer you real advice in terms of whether or not they are worth it for your intended use... :)

As per airline regulations air-pistols or for that matter air-rifles, bb guns etc. are treated as "dangerous goods" and cannot be carried aboard an aircraft as carry on (hand) baggage! Depending on the individual airline you may be allowed to carry it in your check in baggage with/ without the requirement of packing it in an approved gun case. I have been told that Jet Airways and Indian Airlines both allow you to carry airguns/ firearms as check-in baggage, I have no idea about other airlines.

HTH
Cheers!

The commercial import of airguns has been banned since ages... so anything available would be a personal import being resold in the market... try and think back to say 1975 and how easy (or not!!!) it was for someone in those days to buy a Toyota Corolla... Gamo should be as easy to procure (as any other imported brand) as the Toyotas were in the mid-1970's....

Sorry to join late.I think I know this place. Is this the one in the lane opposite Golden Threshold,Abids?Near the Aga Khan Centre?A very small affair. When I saw them last time, nearly 3 years, mostly Indian made air rifles. One Diana he had was quite old and the price disproportionate. As Abhijeet suggests, note down what you see and the prices. Some one should be able to help you.

Best-
Vikram

Thanks guys for your responses.

I went to Target point over the weekend with a friend who has represented Delhi state in 10m shooting and is a superb marksman and gun lover.

Target point, for those of u in Hyd, is located next to Haj House in Nampally (opp public gardens).

thi splace has only Indian rifles and pistols on display, alosng with a couple of crappy chinese plastic stuff.

the owner, Shafi, is one shifty character and was trying to palm us a spanish air pistol (with a cracked butt!!) for 17K.

when we asked him about imports, he says tha timports are not an issue, the issue is that the country of origin (eg. US, czhec republic, uk etc. have banned exports to India !!) I was like...WTF!

anyways, we realised that the guy was a rip off and since I am travelling to the US soon anyways, I will try and get a good air pistol from there.

since we had wasted half a day there, both of us decided to buy simething, just for our satisfaction, and ended up buying a blanca apiece. We got a decent deal since for 2000 bucks, he sold us the pistol, a couple of targets and an extra set of copper BBS (along with the ones that come with the gun) and apretty nifty looking belt holster :D

the gun itself is not very well fininshed and I seriously doubt how long it will last. but we bought it only to keep us going till I get a gune (hopefully) from the US in May.

Cheers

Dear Mr. Himanshu,

This is about this Blanca which you got, I have one, it is 0.177 BB (holding 18 BB in case on the barrel) as well as 0.177 Pellet shooter. It is made in Bangalore. It cost 1600.00. With a safety lock. With BB it works well, but after some shots if you use pellets they struck in the barrel leaving us with no option but to remove it manually. The body is made of some kind of cast iron. And it breaks. It happened with me.
The Pistol looks beautiful. Beyond doubt.

I have a few other Air Rifles and Pistols also.
