MoA: That's quite remarkable!!
I have been busy, but meaning to ask you if you have seen a paperback book entitled The Ultimate in Rifle Accuracy by Glen Newick. He has some very interesting and for me, new, information about Bench Rest shooting & competition, as well as some tips for hunting rifles that sound as if they need to be tried.
Wondered if you've seen this book and if you have, solicit your opinion.

Tim,
Have 'seen' the book. Havent bought it yet though. I did glance through a copy and a lot of the information seemed a little dated. However it did seem to have good information

Its a new world record.
The 338LM round is potent and the British Armed forces had favoured it over the .50BMG, at least initially.
Amzing...

Actually the .338 LM is a newer cartridge than the 50 BMG and in the context of Sniping plays a different role.
The 50 from the outset was envisaged as an anti-material role, and remains extremely effective at that well beyound the ranges the .338 can achieve. Additionally .338 LM rifles are less than half the weight and size of a 50 BMG rifle.
The .338 LM was designed if I remember correctly as a round used primarily for being able to take down enemy forces at ranges of 1000 meters. The round will penentrate 5 layers of MilSpec bullet proof material (Not Ballistic plates) at 1000 meters.
The .338 LM also kicks like a mule. It is not for the faint of heart to shoot it without either a muzzle brake or preferably a suppressor which will reduce felt recoil very considerably. And even then it kicks hard.

MoA: Thanks for the tip! As a competitor, I could well understand how the information could be outdated to present conditions. I got the book at Half Price Books to add to my bathroom library.

It is amazing because the previous record holder took three shots for the kill with a 50cal.
This one is literally One Shot One Kill (including the MG).

There is a reason why the .50 BMG is considered an anti material rifle, and the .338 anti personnel.
When asked by some liberal nut 'What did you feel after killing the two insurgents?' The sniper replied, 'Recoil.'

One of the oldest and my favourite sniper joke. This tag is associated with most snipers as "their quote".
