Cost of guns if I buy them in India
Hi
I was going through a very good post in Legal eagle and have come to an understanding that
In India if and whn I apply for license It will take around 6 months for me to get a license
I will get a license for atmost three fire arms which can be a combination of a rifle, pistol and shotgun. I may choose the order for them.
I would assume that guns are not cheep even if I buy them in India and probably importing something out of India is beyond my budget.
Now assuming I will get a license, I would have to precure guns. I would like to know what kind of cost am I looking at to buy a rifle, a pistol (though I would prefer a revolver) and a shot gun so that I can start saving much before I apply for a license.
Which is a good company in India ( just the way I was suggested for Indian make National is the best for air guns) to buy the above three.
Thanks
Regards
Gaurav

Assuming you are in a be Indian buy Indian mode, it would help to start saving to the tune of 1.5 to 2 lacs for all three firearms. I'm not saying it's going to cost you that much...depends on a lot of factors (a cheap 315 or a 30-06, for instance), but you wanted a ball park figure.

Agree with Hamiclair saving for guns in India is akin to saving money for kids college fund atleast for certain choices as Hamiclair pointed. Conduct some research on this board / forum and you shall get the general idea..even assuming license within 6 months can be a drag ..but good luck

So assuming I get a license on day X and the license will be required to be reset on x + 3 years.
am I under any oblligation to buy as many guns in the license ?
Further looking at the site of indian ordnance factory http://ofbindia.gov.in/index.php
Some of the things look good. Are the arms produced by IOF any good ?

You have to keep at least one firearm on your license before you renew it. (Else how will you justify the license.) Certain areas have a purchase period, during which you are supposed to buy you gun.gverma wrote:So assuming I get a license on day X and the license will be required to be reset on x + 3 years.

Hi Verma,
first thing good to see you hope that you shall get your liecence in 6 months, I know people dragging their a@# in and out of DM office for more then a year and still without a liecence and now the MHA is planning to tighten it much more. So first thing first i wish you good luck for your liecence.
Now comming to the latter part.
Anything of IOF, which you would come to understand is no good and overall the prices charged by them are not at all justified. Still to check out the prices, the same are available on their Websites.
For Import makes, You need Deeeeeeeeeppppp Pockets, a 25 year old revolver / pistol wont cost you less then 2.5 again the make and condition of the Handgun matters, for popular brands for e.g., S&W, Colt the price shall start from 4 lacs and i have personally seen it go at 8.5 Lacs, this one was a S&W Snub nose nickel plated with one of the dealer in Mumbai. For rifles and shotgun again the prices vary from city to city, though you can start it from low as Rs. 40,000/- all the way to Rs. 2 lacs. better to check out with some of the gun dealers in your area. I think their is a thread on the forum which gives the prices of different makes of Hand guns, Shotguns and Rifles, this is a cumulative data puttin by the members based on the prevaling rates in their zone.
Again i wish you all the best and hope you get your liecence, because its not just your need, its your Right.
Ravi.

Ravi:
Arms and ammunition in India seem to cost ridiculous amounts. I dont see why you should pay about the bulk price for a single CCI .22 LR cartridge that is equivalent to a box of fifty in the US.

Personally, am curious about your optimism in getting a licence for 3 guns in one go!! The Indian Govt takes all efforts to reject a licence application. It's pure influence that'll get you a licence and if you got the kind of influence to get 3, you surely have a deep enough pocket to buy really good ones. Ravi.Sharma seems quite on the mark with prices.
