A class X student was arrested on charges of carrying a pistol to his school in Farrukhnagar, about 30 km from Gurgaon.
"We got a call from an anonymous caller who told us that the 17-year-old student of Dhanker Senior Secondary School was carrying a gun to the school. We immediately rushed to the school and carried a raid. The informer told us that the boy was proudly showing off the countrymade pistol to his friends in the classroom. After reaching there, we recovered the gun from his possession and arrested him,'' said Deepak Saharan, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Farrukhnagar.
Senior cops said that the boy is from Cherra Khurrampur village near Farrukhnagar. "His father is no more and he lives with his mother and two sisters,'' added Saharan
Police Commissioner S S Deswal said that during questioning the accused said that one Vijender, one of his friends in village, gave him the pistol. "We are still looking for Vijender. A case under Arms Act has been lodged against the boy at Farrukhnagar police station,'' Deswal said.
Principal Rajbeer Dhankad said that the school frisks students everyday on school premises. "But at times some students arrive late and that is why they enter classrooms unchecked,'' he said, adding that prior to this episode, no disciplinary complaint was received against the accused.
Guns in Gurgaon schools have been reported in past too. In 2007, two 14-year-olds shot dead a classmate in a high-profile school, apparently because he had bullied them several times, police said.
