Government issue guns?

Post by eselquinoa » Fri Jul 03, 2009 12:45 pm

Is there any info about what different types of guns govt forces use? Like the paramilitaries with assault rifle type weapons (SIG? MP5?) What is issued to CRPF, BSF, SSB, ITBP, etc? Is there any Indian site like this US one -

Are M16s used by Indian forces? Never seen one with security forces, usually 7.62 mm self loading, 5.56 mm Insas & AK series are mostly seen with central armed forces. Most of the state forces have .303, with few states transitioning to 7.62 mm self loading rifles.

Don't forget the RFI 2A and 2A1 in 7.62x51 NATO -- from what I can gather, there are still some in use despite the government's getting rid of numbers of them. This is a modification of the No. Mk III* SMLE upgraded in strength to handle the NATO round.

I like mine! :^)

Do take the trouble to explore the forums eselquinoa:

Its a on the pistol thread but kind of went off topic.... but it should give some useful info. Follow it in its entirety.

Well I have been lucky enough to use a few of those. Even though I have never been associated with the Indian security forces. :D
