Re: An amazing sniper shot
i remember seeing this on a channel some months ago. also remember thinking, if the shooter had missed out on breathing lessons in sniper school, the bullet would have been someplace else.

Actually, I went thru most other videos in that page.. Everyone is more amazing from the other.
As shooters or as those who have been exposed to shooting, it amazes us, and brings on an appreciative smile. Imagine what those who dont know anything about guns will think of such shots... Miracle?

Grouping on paper targets and shooting with human beings in very close proximity will be different. Matter of fact, the situation and the gripping tension will add to the shooter's woes
You have to consider that the target (the suicidal guy's revolver) is unpredictable in movement and there are other unseen possibilities. I am sure most of us could manage such a shot, but we have not, and thats the plus

Jean-Jacques Annaud wrote his screenplay after being inspired by Anthony's Beevor's gripping book on the battle of Stalingrad. Vasily Zaytsev is a real person, was a famous sniper, and is mentioned in the book as well, but the celluloid version is just a conglomeration of make believe and legends pasted together.

Re: An amazing sniper shot
As per wikipedia and Weaponology show on Military channel, Vasily Grigoryevich Zaytsev killed 225 soldiers and officers of enemy, including 11 enemy snipers. That says enough about this great sniper. There have been many others also with great kills but hes the most famous.( maybe because "Enemy at the gates" made him famous).
The incident that is not confirmed is the duel with the German sniper.
Cheers

Re: An amazing sniper shot
read again dude. the point of contention is the historical accuracy of the film in question, not whether vasily zaytsev existed or not....who, as a matter of interest , had a score of 149 germans.( the highest scoring russian sniper bagged 224.......his name was never revealed, though he was known by the nickname "Zikan".)msandhu";p="55661 wrote: As per wikipedia and Weaponology show on Military channel, Vasily Grigoryevich Zaytsev killed 225 soldiers and officers of enemy, including 11 enemy snipers. it just might interest you that my primary source of information for my comments are:
1. "Stalingrad: the fateful seige, ", Anthony Beevor, chapter 12 ,pages:203-204, Penguin books , London 1999.
2. Times of India , feb 2000, supplement, Annaud's interview. (too lazy to look up the archive)
i am skeptical on basing my opinion on unsubstantiated websites and tv channels. i would advise you to do the same.

Re: An amazing sniper shot
Well hamiclar01 , neither i am historian with lots of research , nor i am saying the facts and figures are accurate. In fact someone said " The first causality of any war is TRUTH". Now I am not sure how you can say Wikipedia or encyclopedia are unsubstantiated websites. There is tons of information there and most of it is very accurate too. ( not saying everything written there is always true). As far as the show that i mentioned here , they also show something only after doing some research .
On both the mediums ( web site and the show ) they did mentions that the exact number is of kills is not known.
Cheers
