Bindra's gun now in India

The golden gun that helped Abhinav Bindra win the Olympic gold is now available in India too - courtesy his own agency, Abhinav Futuristics Limited.

The Indian ace, who has been using a Walther-make air rifle for the past 10 years and also won the world title with it in 2006, got the sports rifle and pistol distribution rights from the world-renowned company in 2006. And his father, A.S. Bindra, extended the association with the German arms manufacturer to include small arms for internal security in India.

Besides, few would know that Abhinav is also the brand ambassador for the world's oldest arms manufacturing company. With Abhinav at the 'helm' now, the gun will surely become a hot commodity in the country. The Bindras are also planning to open offices all around the country, including Delhi, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chennai and Kolkata.

Question is, when can we get our hands on fresh imports of the "real" stuff?

I also heard that Walther was sponsoring him Air Rifles since 2001, for his shooting.
All said and done, more attention is better because:
1. More players will open shop, looking at a rising market.
2. Shops can be converted into manufacturing/assembly - the way it happened in cars industry.
3. Localites may pick up scent and make cheaper look alikes, etc.
4. Sponsorship for events/assocoations/individuals will pick up.
5. More involvement gives more attention gives more money in the game, which is so much needed.

I can see ads of resorts which only included rappling and rafting, now advertising "Come for a weekend of fun for your family, at our resort cum range" :)

IIRC the first one was opened in Chandigarh. Will they be commercially importing air guns? If yes isn't it illegal?

Regards.

There may be some "exceptional' clause for importing :)

Wasnt the restriction removed? Or was that only for individuals?

In which case Abhinav's company might just be 'easing' the pain.

The restriction was removed only for individual members of shooting clubs/ rifle associations. Air-rifles/ air-pistols are still under the restricted category in the current EXIM policy, which basically means that commercial imports are still a NO NO.

Cheers!

If imports are restricted...what are they agents for? :?
Service and after sales?
Or is it like if I want to import a Walther I have to import through them?
