one of the top snipers of our time
Hi
in the world of shooting there are many men of vest talent and experience weather they be in civilian world or in the Armed forces of the world.
One of the most exceptional would be the late Mr. Carlos Hathcock, A Marine in the American Forces during the Vietnam war.
He hold the longest sniper shot in the 20th century until few months back the Canadian sniper in Afghanistan broke the record.

there are movies such as sniper with tom brenger which is based on Carlos character, also myth buster did a test if a shot can kill one if looking through a scope,
based on carlos killing a sniper by shooting him through the scope.
the myth busters concluded that it was impossible but when pointed out that the scope used via the Vietnam sniper would be old one and not the ones we have today, so based on that the myth busters said that it could be possible.

Well Said.
But please dont assume that one did not try either. I got rejected in NDA for my Bronchial problem![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
And there are so many things, beyond the normal Maslow's Heirarchial Needs Theory, which 'attract' a peron to a degree, and does not necessarily mean resigning to the interest whole and soul.
Coming back, Carlos was not only lucky doing what he wantedm but he was also in the right time at the right place. True hero![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Yes, you are right again.
Matter of fact, peace-time aid is so far better than war-time 'sniping'![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Which pretty much goes to show that Myth Busters should be taken with a grain of salt. If it was possibly in the 1960s, it would be possible with todays' scopes. Scopes have not become armored. Also, remember that Moshe Dayan reportedly lost his eye to an opposing sniper, being hit through his scope. Yes, it it entirely possible to be shot through your scope; which may provide the only aiming point by reflecting light. The greatest danger to an otherwise well camouflaged sniper. Cheers.

True enough. They reflect a lot less light than untreated glass, but still are easy enough to spot in direct sunlight. And those coatings don't make them bullet proof. Still optical glass. Cheers.

hi
what i am looking at is, that the bullet should deflect somewhat after the bullet has passed through the first or the second layer of the glass.
thus missing the target.
this is what the myth buster came up with the first time round. they shot at close range, i think about 100M distance. they tried few times to get the target through the scope around three scope was used, but failed. so they said it was not possible.
i would agree with that.
however
if the targets scope is weakened somewhat, then it may be possible to shoot the sniper though the scope.
and i think that this may be the case with the shot Carlos took, the Vietnam's sniper scope may be faulty one.
of course it is 100% possibility that i am way over the top and totally wrong in my Guess work.![Crying or Very sad ](./images/smilies/icon_cry.gif)
one other point that we must not forget about being shoot through is that the Vietnamese snipers would be using Russian/ red china scopes. which are not necessary of high guilty in terms of strength and durability. if the inside layers of glass is weakened in some way then it would be easy for the round to pass through.TwoRivers";p="46539 wrote: Which pretty much goes to show that Myth Busters should be taken with a grain of salt.
