I have a German combination gun 16 gauge over 6.5X52R. I would like to learn more about this gun. The forearm is damaged and I would like to find a replacement forearm or find someone who can repair the original. The gun has external hammers. The following is stamped on the barrel: flussstahl krupp lssc 11 K.m.G N6 gr U6.3mm 52G S W U 16 inside a circle L Please see pictures of gun on other post. New member Thanks, Malvin

Interesting gun. Is it possible for you to post the details of the make? Also, clear close-up photos of the barrel flats which contain the proof marks. That would give an idea about the age etc. Check the barrels for any rust/pitting.Without those details, little can be said about it.

The 6.5x52R is a close variant of the .25-35 Winchester but should not be considered identical cartridges and are not treated as such by the Commission Internationale Permanente pour l'Epreuve des Armes à Feu Portatives (CIP). The CIP released separate specifications for each cartridge. The 6.5x52R has its origins in Germany and was introduced by RWS and is chambered in many drilling and single shot rifles. Interchangeability between the two cartridges is dependent on the chamber tolerances.

I would assume that it will be exceedingly difficult to procure the correct ammo for the rifle barrel.

Picture of proof marks.

As I said earlier, it's most certainly is a Suhl made guild gun.The absence of a maker's name indicates to that.Proof marks are definitely Suhl,East Germany, marks.After 1950. Interesting that it is a hammer gun.

Two Rivers,should be of help re repairing the forearm. What exactly is the problem with it? Thanks.

That is interesting that it was made in the fifties. I thought it was made in the thirties. If you look at one of the pictures I posted you will see that half of the wood in missing from the forearm. I wish I had the missing half. The forearm still fastens to the barrels tightly so all the forearm iron is there and in good shape. How do I get in touch with Two Rivers? Where are they located? The three crown marks with S,U,and W are used after 1950 in Suhl.

Which points to the possibility that it could have been made between 1891-1939/45 as you said. Are there any other marks on the other side of the barrel flat?

Most likely 1930s or earlier. After 1945 there were no independent gunsmiths in Suhl. Also, in 1941 and 1943 Germany limited the number of rifle cartridges allowed for hunting to nine, and the 6.5x52R was not one of them.
It is simply the German version of our .25-35 WCF; though they back-engineered it, taking the dimensions from American cartridges, and so came up with a slightly tighter chamber. Usually a .25-35 will chamber. If not, the chamber can be opened with a .25-35 chamber reamer.
As to the broken forearm, any good stockmaker should be able to help, but it won't be cheap. Repairs are usually not feasible due to the thin cross sections, and possibly oil soaked wood.

Instead of looking for a replacement, I'd rather you had an exact replica of this fore end made here locally by carefully selecting and matching the grains in the wood with the stock. Shouldn't be a problem if you have an access to a good craftsman. Its a very interesting looking fire arm worth spending on.

Marksman
