Re: FBI- Handgun Wounding: Factors & Effectiveness

This article has been posted here before. However, since (in my opinion) it is so important for gun owners who need this information to read and digest this document, I am glad that it has been reposted for the benefit of newer members who may not be aware of it.

movies are meant to exaggerate,so we don't need to bother or learn anything from it.
but then for those who have no idea about guns they will definetly beleive this comedy.
in most action movies they show the hero blast off a lock with his gun?????don't they know the risk involved.i think they should grow up!!

Just something that I would like to bring up; compared to a rifle, a handgun is a relatively poor man-stopper.

From a self defense perspective, we don't intend to kill or maim anyone, we just intend to stop the threat (whatever that takes). If you want to stop the threat instantly, use a rifle or a shotgun.

A handgun is a poor substitute, making proper shot placement very essential. However, if the round is not effective, even good shot placement will not matter as it will not stop the threat.

The study posted above was conducted in the aftermath of the "Miami Shootout". You can read the official FBI reports on the incident HERE
